Roughly equal since around the late 90’s, but you start seeing disparities again in recent years. Anyone have a thought as to why?

Consensual donations? Or harvesting?

In the UK it's an "opt out" arrangement, and yes we need organs and yes, "harvesting" is inflammatory, but generosity/charity/donation isn't exactly altruistic if forced.

Where women donate more than men, the following are offered as explanations:

Men are more likely to end up with acute kidney failure that requires a transplant, and spouses are the most likely to offer to donate an organ for both sexes.

When donating to children, their mothers are usually doing so rather than fathers. (Fatherlessness epidemic alongside expectations that women will be good parents and expectations men are evil and shitty parents have impacts here.). There is also the economic consequences to consider, as donation leaves you out of work for months.

what country are you referring to?

The US statistics show a consistent pattern where male donations are higher than female donations going back every single year (other than 2010 where females had a slight lead) going back as far as at least 1988 but the gap is nothing like what is shown in your chart.

according to this study, mothers donate more than fathers and, wives more than husband's, sisters more than brothers..

Donors: females 63% to male 37% recipients: 2 males for 1 female (reversed)

Basically women are paying with their livers and kidneys to help the men in their lives.

this is just the first study that came up after my search, studies that contradict this are welcome as well
