It's actually just not a tragedy.

Criminals get separated from their children this is the policy for everyone.

I have yet to meet a single person who was detained and allowed to take their child to jail with them.

A good example of the empathy gap being utilized however.

I assume the "including girls" was added due to the fact the Trump administration had refused to inform the press of where girls and young toddlers/babies were being held. So knowing some girls are now being held at this facility is notable.

There has been endless reporting about this tragedy and it hasn't focused on girls vs boys. We know the trauma caused to all children in this situation is real.

This is because this was the first time girls arrived at this shelter. If you’ve been following the story, this is a relevant piece of information to include.

If you've been following the story at all you'd realize that it does need to be clarified there are girls there. As much focus as there is on the separation of families and the child detention centers, people are starting to realize that almost all of the limited photos and videos being released show exclusively boys. Journalists hunting for details are finding that "no one knows" where the girls are being kept. This has spurred child trafficking rumors even higher.

So yes, specifying girls in the title is relevant as part of the larger ongoing story. It's new information. This has nothing to do with society's treatment of men and boys.
