“Anti-discrimination laws were passed to empower women and make sure they thrive in a world where the playing field has been tilted against them, which is precisely what The Wing does,” Dunn said. “It would turn these laws upside down to see them as being contrary to The Wing’s values and mission.”

Interesting. It might be acceptable, if they weren't simultaneously attacking any system that they believe gives men an advantage. "You have a club so we have a club" works fine. "We want a club and we want to stop you having a club" does not.

Besides, this is not what the laws were passed for, the laws were passed to untilt the playing field. Not to advantage women, but to ensure they were not disadvantaged. You can't have your cake and eat it.

"You can't have your cake and eat it..." Women and feminists certainly want to.

[–]KingRobotPrince 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Indeed they do.

Let's hope they get a wake-up call.

Men can't possibly understand how oppressive it feels to be treated no better than a man.

I find it hilarious when feminists and SJWs get all butthurt because the "wrong" people are being protected by anti-discrimination laws.

You can't have your cake and eat it.

It was originally, you can't eat your cake... and have it to. Which, for me, makes a lot more sense.

Yeah this is the right version

In Quebec French its "The butter, and the money to buy the butter with". Or "Le beurre et l'argent du beurre".

I’ll be filing a suit in court to stop this if they try it.

There's a reason many feminists lobbied successfully alongside traditional conservatives to kill the equal rights amendment: they correctly deduced it would threaten their legal privileges.

When you recognize equality would be a step down but still want to be called oppressed...

[–]ipwr85 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That was always obvious since they never complained about the male only draft or male only death penalty. They also never wanted fathers to be treated equally in the child custody system.

Ninja'd.

Oh well, she's probably right in that the original intent of said laws was to help women, but the actual wording of such laws is to prohibit discrimination against men or women and The Wing is in clear violation.

When you're accustomed to privilege, equality looks like oppression.

This is why feminists don't truly want the ERA. They don't want equality.

As these commissions are usually stacked by feminists I doubt you'll see a fair outcome. The only way to deal with this is through a lawsuit.

Just go in and claim to be a woman.

Circa 1978, major feminist organizations reached a consensus to equate equality with female empowerment. (Partially to mollify the remaining pesky fems who still believed in actual equality.) To reach this conclusion it's necessary to assume that females are disadvantaged--and always will be--in every category and situation. That was part of their internal brainwashing.

Selling this to the public over 40 years shows the power gradualism. Organized feminism is nothing if not patient and persistent. Nowadays, the public is conditioned to assume that women's status is always inferior, be it health, education, violent victimization, post-incarceration, even homelessness.

Short of any concerted opposition, the commission is certain to grant The Wing some sort of waiver, setting a legal precedent. No commissioner with any sense of self-preservation is going to stand alone against the "women's groups." Hell, even the mayor is on board.

[–]andejoh[S] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Hell, even the mayor is on board.

True, but that was also the case with the Alamo Draft House women only Wonder Woman screening. That changed when they realized that it was illegal and people filed complaints until then, they were snotty as Hell.

They always put on a strong front. They always put on a PR war because they haven't a leg to stand on and hope to shame you into submission, but if you stay firm like at Harvard, they'll bend to equality. Partly because they know pushing too hard risks exposing that they aren't truly for equality and partly because I think they've actually started to believe the bile they've been trying to sell the rest of us, that they're for equality.

Look at how many of them are now father's rights supporters. Not because they actually believe in father's rights, but society has moved to embrace father's rights. Now they're relegated to fighting for what they can get instead of controlling the narrative and attempting to co-opt the movement. They've even tried to brainwash their sisters into thinking that it's (paternity leave) really to empower women by "making" men share in child rearing.

To understand that, you have to understand that most people have an idea of what is fair. Most people already believe that women achieved substantial equality. Most people don't identify as feminists. I've told people that mist times when you talk to feminists on a post. You're rarely going to change their mind, but speak to the non-feminist who might be passing by.

[–]ipwr85 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The feminist definition of equality - whatever benefits women.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I don't get the issue here. Is something wrong with there being male- or female- only clubs and associations?

[–]runner557 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No. But feminists want it so women can have their own spaces but men can't.

They actually call that "equality."
