Here's another link:

https://squawker.org/culture-wars/ucla-shock-study-women-have-raped-3-6-million-american-men/

I've always scoffed at the term "rape culture". We hate male rapists. We condemn them as guilty straight from the accusation. I don't know anywhere, here in the US, where rape is normalized or trivialized. That was until I started seeing these articles. Is there a rape culture out there? Actually, yes. There is. But it's not the rape culture feminists like to push. It's actually against men. Men get turned away by cops and helplines. There's very few resources to help them. Rape against them is either outright dismissed or laughed at.

[–]Leinadro[S] 12 points13 points14 points 8 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

See that's the odd part. For all the talk of rape culture it is usually exclusively only used to refer to male against female rape and all other forms of rape are talked about with the use of that term.

For example of often is the term rape culture brought up when talking about priests abusing children? Compare that to how often its brought up when talking about men catcalling, groping, and whistling women.

[–]armaadi 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

For people who bring it up for catcalling and whistling, its all about feelings. These people don't really care about the priest raping kids thing...rather they stand these priests up as examples of how horrible men are, but then completely ignore the victims. Those victims have penises, so we can safely disregard them. Now, if those priests are molesting little girls, well, THAT's completely different.

[–]mediainfidel 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I wasn't aware it was only homosexual pedophile priests in the Catholic Church that were a problem. From what I understand, there were female victims as well. While boys were the majority of victims, one in five were girls, which is far from nothing. I wonder how much of this belief that homosexual priests are solely responsible is rooted in anti-gay bigotry?

I'm certainly not saying you have an anti-gay agenda, but the vast majority of media shaping our opinions on the matter seem to focus solely on gay pedophile priests, which is beyond curious.

[–]armaadi 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

It is beyond curious. It just seems like everytime I see an article or see a news segment on a priest raping someone, it's almost always against boys. I think it's deplorable regardless if its a boy or girl that's raped. Perhaps its as a "Look at this hypocrite! Raves against homosexuality on Sunday morning, raping boys Sunday afternoon" type deal. IMO, they're monsters regardless of who they are raping.

[–]ThirdTurnip 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

It is beyond curious.

Could just be money.

Stories about male victims are more likely to elicit sympathy and or outrage. That sells copies.

There's the fact that homosexuality is relatively uncommon, so when a man rapes a male child the chances are very high that the victim was or would have been straight. Plus the obvious hypocrisy of the church preaching against homosexuality but their priests practicing it against children, and the church covering for them.

[–]SchalaZeal01 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Stories about male victims are more likely to elicit sympathy and or outrage.

Umm no, its when its female victims. See Boko Haram.

[–]ThirdTurnip 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

When it comes to church pedophilia, both for it being doubly unwelcome by virtue of sexual orientation and doubly hypocritical for an organisation which denounces homosexuality, male victims win this horrifying race.

[–]SchalaZeal01 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

For church pedophilia, priests had more access to boys. Simple.

[–]-manatease 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't know if you are aware, but in terms of seriousness of sexual assault/rape, that boys are more likely to suffer full-on rape than girls, even though the number of more minor assaults are greater for girls. So the 1 in 5 figure cited is probably not comparing like with like if the general pattern pans out with abuse by priests.

Compare this to the Rotherham travesty, which is the polar opposite. You have to dig really deep to find out that there were ANY young, vulnerable male victims in amongst the media frenzy surrounding the, one would be forgiven for thinking 100%, female victims.

That's virtually 100% of mainstream media ignoring male victims of rape vs documentaries etc detailing female victims of abuse by priests. Perhaps the cognitive dissonance is regarding the female victims not having been given centre stage? Just asking.

Forgot to mention that I found this at femradebates.

[–]Consilio_et_Animis 16 points17 points18 points 8 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

Interesting that if you read it through, they start to talk about the importance of viewing their results through the feminist lens, and that their research is no "threat" to feminism.

So they still have to tow the party line whatever the results of the research. Why can't they be truly "scientific" about it and just present their results in a neutral fashion?

Oh, I know why. Because, like so much of academia they have been infected by the feminist dogma, and they know the terrible cosequences of in anyway challenging that with pesky things like "facts".

[–]Leinadro[S] 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Yes that is a flaw. The adherence to feminist sensibilities does hinder the conversation on these things but unfortunately feminists have the power in this conversation so some consessions are just going to be necessary.

But at the very least forcing a look at it through the feminist lens does present a situation.

If the information is presented through a feminist lens (meaning that its framed in a manner that is consistent with feminist ideology) and feminism/feminists STILL reject it then that shows just how flawed feminism is.

[–]Consilio_et_Animis 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Agreed. Many thanks for posting it. It is 3 steps forward and 1 step backwards.

[–]typhonblue 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

some consessions are just going to be necessary

"Gay men are mentally ill, not sinners. They should be chemically castrated instead of jailed!"

"Some concessions are just necessary for gay rights!"

Fuck it. Time for the Gay dollar and some hard power.

[–]Leinadro[S] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

By consessions I mean spoon feeding it to them in a way they understand. Not actually supporting the harm of people.

[–]typhonblue 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Feminism is harming men.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Which just makes me sick to my stomach on two counts:

1 - We have feminism once again sticking its ideological nose into an issue where it doesn't belong.

2 - If this paper continues to adhere to feminist sensibilities, it's only going to make it easier for feminists to dismiss valid critiques of the movement, particular when it comes to the handling of sexual victimization. Of which was reprehensible towards male victims. And still is.

[–]ThirdTurnip 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If this paper continues to adhere to feminist sensibilities...

This paper doesn't. Not modern feminist sensibilities anyway. This paper shits all over modern feminist sensibilities.

It makes a single concession to them - that acknowledging the truth about female perpetrators and male victims isn't incompatible with considering the role which gender norms might play in sexual assaults.

[–]ThirdTurnip -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Interesting that if you read it through, they start to talk about the importance of viewing their results through the feminist lens, and that their research is no "threat" to feminism.

Not true.

They acknowledge that the feminists of old were instrumental in shining a light on the sexual victimisation of women and pre-emptively rebut the predictable accusation that these researchers are trying to "upend a women's rights agenda".

This is an awesome article which we should all bookmark. It's just the facts. Based on unbiased government statistics drawn from large and representative samples. Whose authors (one of each gender) are from UCLA - an institution with a solid reputation for fighting for justice.

[–]Consilio_et_Animis 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Our findings might be critically viewed as an effort to upend a women’s rights agenda that focuses on the sexual threat posed by men. To the contrary,

Translation: "Our research is no threat to feminism..."

In presenting our findings, we argue that a comprehensive look at sexual victimization, which includes male perpetration and adds female perpetration, is consistent with feminist principles in important ways.

Translation: "It's important to view our results though the feminist lens..."

And, the assumption that men are always perpetrators and never victims reinforces unhealthy ideas about men and their supposed invincibility.

No it doesn't. It proves, that despite decades of feminist lies and obfuscation, men are victims too.

Male-perpetrated sexual victimization finally came to public attention after centuries of denial and indifference, thanks to women’s rights advocates and the anti-rape movement.

Oh fuck off.

This is an awesome article which we should all bookmark. It's just the facts. Based on unbiased government statistics drawn from large and representative samples. Whose authors (one of each gender) are from UCLA - an institution with a solid reputation for fighting for justice.

Yes. I totally agree. But the authors know that the feminazis don't like the truth or "facts", so they have to kneel down and lick the proverbial feminist ass (yuck) big time.

[–]ThirdTurnip 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

But the authors know that the feminazis don't like the truth or "facts", so they have to kneel down and lick the proverbial feminist ass (yuck) big time.

Those feminazis will be utterly incensed by this article which convincingly challenges one of their most fundamental tenets - that men are evil rapists and women are virtuous victims. The few minor concessions the authors throw their way would be no consolation at all to them. None.

What they're doing is speaking to the broader public. Courtesy of modern feminist lies that public is generally not receptive to this particular truth. That's why the authors have said those things you so dislike. They are speaking skilfully.

[–]Consilio_et_Animis 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You make good points. I'm not criticising the authors or the article as such; rather I'm pointing-out that they have to kow-tow to the feminists as they know the attacks that are coming; and how much feminism has infected academia.

[–]ThirdTurnip 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes, those are very real problems.

Perhaps I'm just more glass 9/10ths full on this one. I think this is a really positive article.

[–]-manatease 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes, this sums up the situation. I felt the same as you did when I read the diversion into women and sexual minorities a.k.a. approved subjects. It's a sad state of affairs and really great testimony to the bullying tactics that go on.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

They acknowledge that the feminists of old were instrumental in shining a light on the sexual victimization of women

And made it difficult to acknowledge Male Victims when they framed it as a crime only by men towards women. Wish somebody would acknowledge that.

Let me know when that happens.

[–]ThirdTurnip -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

The authors allude to the problem of how rape is legally defined, and express the clear view that researchers define female-on-male penetrative rape, as rape.

Over their lifetime, 79 percent of men who were “made to penetrate” someone else (a form of rape, in the view of most researchers) reported female perpetrators.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Then how about they do it without throwing a bone to feminism? Last time I checked, the movement hadn't earned it.

[–]ThirdTurnip -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Rome wasn't built in a day.

[–]typhonblue 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It also wasn't built in Siberia.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

Male-perpetrated sexual victimization finally came to public attention after centuries of denial and indifference, thanks to women’s rights advocates and the anti-rape movement. Attention to sexual victimization perpetrated by women should be understood as a necessary next step in continuing and expanding upon this important legacy.

So that's what Scientific American wants it to be all about. Some legacy.

Feminism, for decades, has intentionally been upholding the narrative that sexual victimization can only be done to females by males while attempting to come down on research that contradicts their "theory".

There have been previous studies done independent of feminism coming to the same conclusions this paper does. Did you see feminists back then flock like mad to be inclusive and for equality?

No.

Screw them. They don't want this done because it's the right thing. They're just looking for a place in the social justice history books so that when people critique feminism about it, they'll pull it out and say "Guess again. They're for equality, sexist!"

[–]Pseudonymble 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I love how this is "news". I'm nearly 40. I can vividly remember being about 12 and being told by some girl who wasn't getting her way that she'd "just tell everyone you raped me anyway". I knew from then on that this was a BS desperation move that cunts would pull out for the rest of my life.

So where is the negativity that you're talking about? I notice that people who like to promote MenLib will do so solely as a backhanded way to trash this sub. Its like they don't know how to be positive without being negative about this place and the MRM in general.

Goodbye and Good Luck I suppose.

[–]SandJA1 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

If you cannot sense the negativity here, you may be normalized to it.

[–]Leinadro[S] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

If you can't point it out, you may be projecting it.

Seriously your first comment on this post was, "I forgot how caustic and bitter the sentiment is in this sub." What does that have to do with the article I posted or something someone in this post said? And if it relates to a comment said in this post then why not reply to that comment directly?

Next you said, "lol. I just had a comment removed because I linked to the more positive sub."

It is common place for subreddits to block links to other subreddits. And speaking of that MensLib trashes this reddit at every turn. Why would you come into a this reddit to advertise and link to another that has a history of being hostile and insulting to this reddit? Oh and the AutoModerator even says that link aren't allowed. You could have just typed out the name without a link. You could have used a screenshot. You could have even contacted the mods of this reddit.

And when I asked for you where the negativity you're so quick to declare instead of showing it you just accuse me of normalizing it. So basically your argument is, "Its true because I said it is."

Im honestly curious as to why you chose this thread just to say, "I forgot how caustic and bitter the sentiment is in this sub."

My guess is you wanted attention so I suppose you got that or maybe you were looking for some self fullfiling prophecy which is pretty easy to get when you come into a thread solely to insult this reddit and name drop another reddit that has a history of insulting this reddit.

Congratulations I suppose.

[–]SandJA1 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Won't isn't the same as can't.

[–]Leinadro[S] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Why why are you here? Seriously what do you hope to gain by coming into a thread, insulting the reddit, and name dropping another reddit that has a history of insulting this one.

You're just proving why MensLib is a sham.

[–]DaeusPater 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Then leave, why are u here? We are not interested in walking on egg shells when it comes to men's issues. You can fuck off.

[–]SandJA1 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Case in point

[–]DaeusPater 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thanks, now this sub can discuss without feminist derailing.

[–]ThirdTurnip 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't see that.

There are a few comments here which I disagree with and I've responded accordingly.

But I wouldn't blame "caustic bitterness". This is an article published in a semi-academic publication. I think the average reader could be forgiven for misconstruing its contents and / or intent.
