The basics:

-Men, some of whom have not been convicted and would have their cases dismissed, are sent to a farm with inhumane conditions to profit the farm.

-The men receive no compensation (save for the possibility of a tiny bonus at the end, at the discretion of the farm).

-If a man is injured (such as the fellow who had his hand bent like a snapped popsicle stick) then the farm files for workers comp so the farm can keep the money rather than giving it to the injured man.

-The chicken farm, Simmons Food Inc., apparently has a revenue of 1.4 billion and serves fast food companies, Walmart, and dog food companies.

-Inhumane conditions include bacterial infections, maiming, and acid burns.

-The men have no freedom to leave or stand up to their slavers.

-Quote from article: “You’ve got to be kidding me,” Noah Zatz, a professor specializing in labor law at UCLA, said when presented with Reveal’s findings. “That’s a very strong 13th Amendment violation case.”

-This is absolutely intentional slavery-- the company has laid of workers in favor of using these enslaved many (many of whom have not been convicted or who would have their cases dismissed, remember).

-The company is investing in new housing quarters for future slaves.

-This is a men's rights issue because it predominantly (in this case, it seems entirely) affects men.

Makes the old-fashioned chain gangs seem more civic minded and moral. At least everyone got well-maintained roads and public works out of it. Do they still do this?

Agenda 2030 is already being rolled out there then. Stalin/Lenins/trotsky/marx gulags, revamped for an new world. 'Europa The Last Battle' explains this, where it came from, who is behind it, and what to expect next. If we let it happen.

she was having trouble filling the overnight shift at her chicken processing plants. The hours were long. The pay was low. And there never seemed to be enough workers.

Maybe, you know, offer some higher pay and let the invisible hand do its work instead of using goddamned slaves.

And if that ain't profitable, find another line of business.

Slavery in american privatized prisons is probably the most important mens rights issue in the west at the moment.

It really needs to be given more attention, tokenism through quotas in the top jobs for example, is small potatoes by comparison.

PREACH!

[–]Arby01 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well, that's disturbing. And some of it obviously illegal. Collecting workers comp for a worker and pocketing it?

Let's let the companies who use this slave camp know that we won't support them until they stop.

Walmart, KFC and Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen. They also make pet food for PetSmart and Rachael Ray’s Nutrish brand

[–]Sarin_G_Series 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Shit, I was wondering how Nutrish was so much cheaper than other Zero-Grain dog foods. Didn't think it was at the expense of people's humanity. Personally, I don't care, even a little, about the living conditions of livestock. Prison labor exploitation I care a lot about. I will switch dog foods over this.

[–]JestyerAverageJoe 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Be sure you let them know that you are switching and why.

[–]Sarin_G_Series 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Good point

[–]BlueAmethyst6 points 8 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Look for "Simmons Foods Inc." on the package.

[–]zurrain 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I'm fine with work camps instead of jail, but you absolutely positively have to pay them a prevailing wage.

[+]xNOM -8 points-7 points-6 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

why? What happened to repaying your debt to society?

[–]Alabast0rr 10 points11 points12 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You know, youve got a point. Lets just enslave them because two wrong make a right.

[–]xNOM -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

LOL generation snowflake. TIL not paying for your own upkeep is "slavery."

[–]Alabast0rr -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Man, I cant wait until you all die of old age.

[–]SpikedGIraffe 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

How much debt is owed then?

[–]mikesteane 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Actual slavery. A simple protection would be offering them jail instead. For the same length of time.

[–]factsenrageyou 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I wonder if it's too late. Is "The West" already irretrievably fucked with no way back? Civilization treats almost all it's men so badly that so many are turning away and refusing to participate that the wealthy must literally start enslaving them to maintain production so women can consume. This is nuts.

[–]ruffykunn 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

More like the US is irretrievably fucked, most western countries have less shitty prisons and better workers' rights.

[–]factsenrageyou 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

So the dual Canadian citizenship I got in 2015 was a good idea huh?

[–]ruffykunn 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Definitely. Good call.

[–]Vandechoz -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

It's not a loophole, it's very specifically stated. Otherwise the 13th Amendment would arguably ban any type of community service, further filling our prisons with people that don't need to be there.

[–]asillyduck_ 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

You call that community service? Which community is being serviced, exactly?

[–]BlindGardener 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

That's kinda what the word 'loophole' means. A hole intended to let convicts pick up trash from beside the highways is used to do this.

[–]asillyduck_ 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Community service in your view is working in a factory for a specific non communal benefactor? Maybe I'm somehow oblivious to something here.

[–]BlindGardener 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You're not understanding what I'm saying, friend.

The part of the amendment that allows community service in judicial sentancing is poorly written. As a result of the poor writing, this is possible. It could even be a side effect of language or morals changing in some way.

Changing an amendment is fuckhard.

That is what I am saying.

[–]asillyduck_ 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Between the two more recent comments have hashed that out. Cheers guys. I think I now better understand.

[–]Vandechoz 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I never called this specific case community service, I said that the 13th Amendment allowing for slavery is not a loophole.

This specific case is a misuse because it is both using non-convicts (which is not allowed by the 13th) and is arguably cruel and unusual punishment (not allowed by the 8th). But that has nothing to do with any loophole.

[–]barretsgoodhand[S] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Interesting, I always thought "loophole" referred to using an exception to a rule for unorthodox or unintended (but technically allowed) purposes. For example, hijacking the amendment's design to help criminals repay society to instead focus on increase corporate profits. (And if that corporation were to turn around and start influencing laws to accelerate the cycle, then you have industrial complex, no?)

[–]Vandechoz 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

the government using its power and money to directly benefit corporations at the expense of the taxpayer isn't really unorthodox at this point, more like a sad reality
