It's funny how feminists live the idea of switching genders for beloved roles, but switch the gender on what is argueably an attack on men and woah, that is wrong.

Now after reading this article I plan on watching this movie when it comes out, what about you guys?

[–]Electra_Cute 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I do not think feminists are making this film, ironically the controversy stirring up from these films helps them as does going to the theatre to watch them.

[–]omegaphallic[S] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh I know the feminists are behind the film, they hate the idea of the film, it ruins the male bashing fun of the story for them.

It's funny how feminists love gender switching roles when the depiction is positive and hate it when it takes a male bashing role and switches it, when by doing so it challenges their narrative.

[–]keonkla 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

At this point its just well Cringey, With that atrocity of ghost busters, the chance of this movie being atleast half way decent is in the negatives.

[–]Rethgil 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I think its a guarantee they plan to get around this by making the main characters the heroes and the rest the villains; villains who 'happen' to have 'old fashioned' views about men and being rescued etc, while the heroic females will 'happen' to display tendencies associated with feminism.

All coincidental of course....!

[–]omegaphallic[S] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I doubt it, but who knows, we will see.

[–]ThePigmanAgain 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Another, more likely possibility, is that they will masculinize the more savage girls. Short hair, greater head height, leaner bodies and so on.

[–]rg57 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

*whoa

[–]asillyduck_ -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'll wait until there is teaser trailer to watch, and to see the flavour of the PR hype they try to whip up. If it feels more like post modern ghostbusters, nope, if it feels more like ghostbusters 2 then yep.

[–]fengpi 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago* (7 children) | Copy Link

"Hey, let's make a movie glorifying a psycho like Harley Quinn!"

"Good idea!"

"Hey, let's make an all-female version of Ghostbusters!"

"That's not a good idea, that's a great idea!"

"Hey, let's make a female James Bond!"

"OMG, brilliant!"

"Hey, let's make an all-female version of Lord of the Flies!"

"... ... ... ... okay, let's not go overboard."

[–]Mode1961 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I made the mistake of commenting on FB to a FB friend who dressed up as HQ for Halloween. She actually looks a lot like the actress who played HQ in the movie. Her costume was well done. I commented "Jeez, you look a lot like HQ I sure hope you don't take on her personality , she is a complete psycho". HOLY SHIT, what a firestorm that caused.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So she did channel the spirit of Harley Quinn.

[–]fengpi 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

But she is a psycho, though. The Joker's abuse and manipulation turned her into one. What firestorm? Do people think she's some kind of role model? There was one comic where she helped the Joker torture a child. If the Joker isn't a role model and the Penguin isn't a role model and the fucking Riddler isn't a role model, then she sure as hell isn't.

[–]KDulius 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Quinn was mentally unstable before she met Joker.. all he did was pour petrol on the fire

[–]fengpi 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well, however you want to split hairs (I don't spend too much time reading comics), she's still not an admirable role model.

[–]InglesFull 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Do not forget "Saving private Ryan"

[–]Rethgil 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Didn't they do that in 'Shaving Ryan's Privates'?

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You gotta love all the feminists claiming "toxic masculinity" is the major theme of a novel written in 1954

[–]ThePigmanAgain 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Apparently the asshole who wrote it had a low opinion of men and said so.

[–]ISOanexplanation 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I love the selection of tweets.

"Girls would never be vicious like toxically masculine boys are!"

"We already have Heathers and Mean Girls showing how vicious girls can be!"

Pick an argument and stick with it, feminists. Otherwise you look like you're just frantically throwing stuff hoping some of it will stick.

[–]omegaphallic[S] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah I noticed that too, those arguments are mutually exclusive.

[–]TheRavenousRabbit 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (26 children) | Copy Link

No, they'd all starve since none of them would be willing to put in the work and heavy labor associated with primitive living. Especially not young, modern women.

[–]fengpi 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

They wouldn't all starve. Someone like Roxanne Gay could feed the tribe for a few weeks once she ran for 30 seconds and dropped dead after her dismayingly overtaxed heart refused to keep pumping the McKormick's brown gravy mix she's got churnin' through her colorful road map of veins.

[–]Rethgil 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

We have LITERALLY seen proof of that, even though you may have been joking slightly, in any number of the TV shows, faked though they often are to help the contestants.

Take the first Bear Grylls Island where women were by themselves-they literally had to be told they would be dead in real life because they were so obsessed with group decisions and making their camp pretty and not putting in the hard work to secure food and water. Totally hilarious. Of course they tried to bury it in the show....

[–]TheRavenousRabbit 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Is this really true? Got any links or anything so I could read about this? Because if that is true, this is just hilarious.

[–]Urishima 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Because if that is true, this is just hilarious.

Sounds hilarious, but I bet hearing their bickering would get maddening in 10 minutes, tops.

[–]Rethgil 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What I found more maddening was the voice over narrative and the desperate attempts to bury their near deaths and portray them as 'strong women'.

[–]Rethgil 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I can't link to streaming sites obviously! But feel free to watch them. Think it was the second season.

One of them was even a child psychotherapist, and when she weighs herself-near the time they had to step in and tell them they were basically starving to death-she LITERALLY squeals with delight and says out loud how HAPPY she is "to weigh so little..."

A child psychotherapist.

Not even kidding.

[–]TheRavenousRabbit 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

One wonders how women have managed to survive for so long.

[–]fengpi 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

They wouldn't all starve. Someone like Roxanne Gay could feed the tribe for a few weeks once she ran for 30 seconds and dropped dead of a heart attack.

Edit: I noticed I posted variations of this twice due to a technical error which happened before I went to bed. Ugh.

[–]beefdx 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

No they try to do the work but usually what happens is the girls waste a lot of time trying to decide who is a leader and what they should do that they become painfully inefficient. There is a season of Survivor where they start as Men versus Women and the Women's tribe melts apart and so they had to do the merge early because the women were going to all die since they were so bad at executing plans. They tried hard, they just couldn't coordinate anything meaningful.

[+]VodkaKitty1 points 8 years ago* [recovered] (15 children) | Copy Link

Lmao you just made up that entire post. No, they did not have to do the merge early and no, the women were not near death.

It's kind of sad how you guys will make up blatant lies out of blind hatred for women.

[–]beefdx 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

Ok admittedly when I said they were all going to die I'm speaking in hyperbole but they were stealing food from eachother and hadn't built a shelter and were not working together as where the men were far more successful, so they quickly mixed the teams up because it was obviously a balance issue. It's no bullshit here's a link to it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=118&v=tqfAt7TshLw

The fact that you just presume it's a lie because it pisses on your preconceived notion of the world actually severely hurts any credibility you have. Very few people here blindly hate women, we just don't pull punches when it comes to speaking the truth and calling people out on their bullshit, regardless of what their gear looks like.

[+]VodkaKitty1 points 8 years ago* [recovered] (11 children) | Copy Link

Really? They "very obviously mixed the teams up"? You're right, a tribe swap has literally never happened in the history of survivor ever 😂 And by "never" I mean "1 or more tribe swaps in every single one of the 34 seasons of Survivor except the first two."

Was that your only season of Survivor?

[–]beefdx 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Mixing the tribes isn't the point, it's that the women's only team was completely incompetent and were so unsuccessful that they rushed the process prematurely because it was going to get out of hand. There are other 'women v. men' seasons of survivor in various countries with similar results where the women have a much harder time working together and establishing leadership as well as appropriating tasks. You're acting like this concept that women-only groups struggle in these kinds of situations is news, this shit literally happens all the time.

[+]VodkaKitty1 points 8 years ago* [recovered] (8 children) | Copy Link

They did not rush the process prematurely. Most tribe swaps happen by episode 3 these days (sometimes sooner). You are literally making shit up because you didn't watch the show lmao.

[–]beefdx 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

You can deny it all you want but the footage speaks for itself. Now sure it's possible to contend that this is reality TV and the desire to write an interesting narrative can lead to bending the truth, but given the over-eagerness for western television to sell the girl-power angle, it's hard not to feel as if the most obvious answer is correct here; women are by and large notoriously bad at working together in groups for tasks like these. I love the women in my life but fuck us all if we went camping and they were in charge of starting a fire or digging a latrine.

[+]VodkaKitty1 points 8 years ago* [recovered] (6 children) | Copy Link

You can deny it all you want but the footage that tribe swaps happen within the first 1-4 episodes (and 4 is pushing it) of every single modern season of survivor is there. This case is no exception.

[–]beefdx 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Ok well agreeing to disagree on that, do you not notice how the dynamic between the men's tribe and the women's tribe differs? If you could entertain me; how would you describe them?

[–]Rethgil 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Bear Grylls The Island where the women had to be warned twice by program malkers to get off their arises because they were near death?

[–]Rethgil 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Hello troll. I give you props for not even trying to hide your agenda. More courage than most trolls like you. I'm curious, what makes you even bother with the nonsense you posted?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's hilarious.

[–]ExpendableOne 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's fucking fiction. Writers can literally depict anyone they want in any way. It's just as false to assume that men would resort to savagery because they are men than it is to assume that women would not because they are not. Both are also completely sexist.

[–]ThePigmanAgain 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Said it before and i will say it again -- deep down, women are just savage little monkeys waiting for an opportunity to kill and eat their own children. And girls, being closer to the natural state, are even worse. If The Lady Of The Flies is honest, it will be an horrific, blood-drenched affair in which none of the characters manage to retain even a modicum of civilization -- sort of like the feminist movement but with less cannibalism.

[–]omegaphallic[S] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Okay, a little over the top don't you think?

[–]ThePigmanAgain 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes. But the way things are, that's the only way to get people to pay attention to the point i am making.

[–]Rethgil 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

No more over the top and much more honest about issues than feminist claims such as "all men are potential rapists". Such phrases are common and accepted as true. Do you challenge them? Good for you if so...

[–]omegaphallic[S] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I wouldn't be here is I didn't.

[–]Rethgil 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I see this has already attracted a few feminist trolls here since this is such a high profile and touchy upcoming subject. Be sure to be on the lookout.

[–]Rethgil 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Day two and more trolls have appeared. Some openly trolling too. Some hiding and playing more subtle. Playing good cop feminist and bad cop feminist.

[–]beefdx 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think the fixation on the Lord of the Flies as a narrative about masculinity being toxic inherently misses how much the book focuses on the role of anarchy and the lack of positive authority figures resulting in chaos and the breakdown of the social order. By that I disagree that it wouldn't make sense with females; when girls don't have positive authority figures keeping them in check they can become as bitter and nasty as boys ever could, and given women's generally superior ability to socially manipulate people to get what they want, I think it could make for an interesting premise if written correctly. Feminists probably won't be too pleased though, so I imagine this movie will spend at least a fair amount of time kissing the ring.

[–]omegaphallic[S] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm thinking that this film will be less of a adoption, and more of an mockery of the mysandry of the original, I look forward to it.
