This issue speaks more on the mental handicap afflicting society right now. I want to sit down this author and ask "Please tell me how and where we could put a lead actor of color and a lead actor of the female gender during a WW2 battle. I want to know what you think".

Honestly though I feel like this piece is designed as a controversial piece just to draw viewers in. The author is probably fully aware of how not-possible the request is.

Posting the same thing here because we had this thread just a day or two ago and the usa today review only has like, 1 line referencing race or gender.

From the USA Today review: The trio of timelines can be jarring as you figure out how they all fit, and the fact that there are only a couple of women and no lead actors of color may rub some the wrong way.

As much as I love a good rage inducing article, it wouldn't seem like the paper itself is complaining about it as much as it is bringing up something that would rub some of its readers the wrong way. I think this says more about its readers than the newspaper, if we're just looking at this article anyway.

The headline and the lede are both strawmen, the article did not complain about the lack of women and lead actors of colour in the movie.

That claim is a lie by its author Delingpole, this article originally appeared on Breitbart. (For those who don't know him Delingpole is one of the world's most famous and most craven global warming denialists, he has zero shame).

I looked for the alleged Twitter storm, it hardly existed, mostly just a bunch of MRAs trying to convince each other that feminsts don't know the British fighting troops were white men.

We have a big huge thread on this article already, in which it is established there were four companies of Indian muleteers in France, 4x400=1600 men plus 2700 mules. Over 3/4 of the remaining members were evacuated at Dunkirk.
That is a tiny fraction of the 330,000 men evacuated, and they are the only coloured troops known to be there.

It would be politically difficult to put them in the film since a senior British officer ordered that the Indians (and mules) be left behind. They court-martialed a platoon leader Peter Ashdown for refusing the order, then reversed the decision later.
The movie makers presumably would have found life difficult if they had angered the British Ministry of Defence by mentioning the Indians.

Two million Indian men served elsewhere in WW2, and many other ethnicities too.

Interestingly records of the Indians in Dunkirk are hard to find. The Indians just mysteriously got teleported to Cornwall and then scattered around Wales.

A Zee TV crew investigated after it was revealed a British platoon leader John Ashdown was court-martialled for refusing to abandon his Indian troops as ordered by a senior officer.

During the BEF's 100-mile retreat in June 1940, the order went out from a senior British officer to set loose the mules and the Indians; the British officers were ordered to make their way to Dunkirk for evacuation, since officers were in short supply.

Sir Paddy Ashdown's father, John, disobeyed, turning loose the mules but marching his platoon to Dunkirk without loss. There he secured a berth for them all on the last ship out before the jetty was bombed. Back in England, he was ... court martialled for disobeying an order. The Ministry of Defence, when first approached about the story by the Southall-based TV company Zee TV, said its archive department had after two days been unable to find any record of Indian troops at Dunkirk; it also reported it had lost the records of Indian Army court martials.

Zee TV located a record of the Indian troops' presence in hours at the Imperial War Museum. The ministry then asserted that the command to cut loose the Indians and mules, made by a single officer, did not amount to an official order.

PS: Allied command insisted that in return for the liberation of Paris being led by French troops, only white soldiers would be permitted. This was a huge problem for France as so many of its soldiers were black. To make the numbers they had to dress up Spanish soldiers as French soldiers.

I literally just saw the film. There were women in it. Doing what women did back then. They were nurses tending to the men who were injured. Christ have some fucking respect.

If the reviewer was really trying to push a point like Breitbart and Daily wire say, they wouldn't have used mankind. This whole piece is trying to make it worse then it is.

My Ganddad on my mothers side fought in the rear-guard at Calais. When they ran out of ammunition for their rifles, they took on the Panzars and infantry with moltovs and when they ran out of alcohol and petrol, they through empty glasses to try and get the people to duck and cover so they could pull back further

He struggled for the rest of his life with the PTSD and apart from the smallest bits of information he passed on to my mother, he never could speak about what he went through, and he refused the medal that the Mayor of Dunkirk issued to the all the British Troops that fought in the reargaurd decades later.

So. this one is with feeling; Fuck you feminist cuntbags. I WILL NOT allow your in-fucking-saitable demand for faux diversity to erase what the brave men of the British Army, Navy and Airforce did on that day, and all the other days of World War 2, nor will I allow you to diminish the heroics of the men who took their fucking fishing boats into the meat grinder of Dunkirk to save them
