First let me say this is fucked up and unjust.

But regarding your business, have you tried to make a strength out of your weakness, being a man? I mean at this point its obvious, you don't get clients by playing the game like its advised for women on this platform. You could somehow argue that you could be a good male role model for single mothers kid. Don't go on and present yourself with the mindset of being a defective woman but being a complete man who has a lot to offer especially for young boys lacking a father figure! You have nothing to lose. Be more confident in what you are! You're unique, you're a man in a business full of women, sell that!

I've seen a woman rush to grab her kids from the park while walking my daughter to the park. That is the world that we live in. Because it's unusual for men to be active fathers alone with kids in kid-friendly zones, then men are immediately suspect. The world is getting silly.

For what it's worth, I have a preference towards male babysitters (always preferred male teachers when I was in school as well). I have 2 sons (and a daughter) and, even though their dad is in their lives (we're together, he's an active dad), you can never have too many positive male role models in this world.

Unfortunately, I find more and more that I am in a rapidly shrinking minority when it comes to this. World tends to say penis=predator. It sucks, it's horrible. And not just for the grown men who just genuinely love kids, but for the kids who are missing out on SO much!

I know that where I work they have a day care nursery and they will not even accept any applications for it from men. Basically their reasoning is "Think of the children" and "We can't risk the liability."

Sucks to hear. I'm a preschool teacher from New Zealand. I find that I'm in high demand because male teachers are so uncommon and parents want a balance for their children. I chose to study through a university to get a teaching degree and I'm sure that helped my credibility. Keep trying bro. I've never heard of Care.com but I'm sure that there are other agencies available. Once you do find work it will be worth it.

I told my son to think twice when he told about his dream job which included working with children. Why get into a field where your sex is a liability when there are jobs where it isn't (hopefully)? Now he's studying computer science. I don't know if my opinion influenced him, probably not much, but I'm glad he made, what I consider, the right decision by removing the children from the future job equation. It's sad, too, but what can one person do to change the way we are - or have become in this era of feminism.

Are you just looking for part-time work? If not then maybe a daycare or better yet and after school program. My school ran one, and there was a young man there that the kids absolutely loved. He was young, and even had tatoo's. Unfortunately, we're still a long way away from society trusting men alone with their children like they do with women.

Not just childcare. There are many other fields that simply want a female, especially younger females: front office staff, hostess, nightclub server, art galleries, etc, etc.

The flipside of this where men get preferences would be size/strength related: bouncer, security guard, manual labor.

Things like this kill me. My mother in law owns a preschool and is apprehensive about ever hiring a male because she's "not sure what parents might think". Stinks that we live in a world where that is a real worry...
