James Bond is an English spy with aristocratic sophistication who operated during the Cold War. Being a smug, aristocratic womanizer is essentially his entire characterization. Writing a film to take place during the cold war and having a woman act in that role realistically in that time and place might be interesting, for the same reason that Thomas Wayne makes an interesting Batman in Flashpoint. It would be a huge stretch, but so what?

I guess it helps that I don't like the Bond films all that much.
