The entitlement was epic in this case. She expected everyone to completely buy into the idea that she had every right to physically harm this man. And with the chuckles and smirks in the audience, it only fed into this attitude. If we apply a gender reversal to this case, it would be nothing but either silence or very obvious distaste and disdain from the audience for a man demanding financial restitution for being prosecuted for DV and having to take a court-ordered rehab class...and I noticed that there was no mention of jail time for her assault.

And for the person who said that this was fake...you are quite wrong. Most of these court shows are quite real. The people are paid to remove their small claims cases from the municipal civil courts to be tried on-air by the show personality. The only thing that is sometimes "fake" about these shows is that the "judge" is not always an actual judge.

Famous examples include "The Judge Mills Lane Show" where famous boxing referee Mills Lane was hearing cases and "Moral Court" where radio personality Larry Elder was sitting on the TV bench.

Story time. When I was 18-19 I fell in love with a girl. She asked me to write a post-dated check to pay her insurance and that she'd reimburse me before it was cashed. Mind you, I'm 18 years old and naive I said "anything for you babe I love you". Of course in that time span she dumped me. I was devastated (18) but politely asked her to reimburse or I'd stop the check and she'd lose her insurance. She basically laughed at me. I stop the check, it bounces on the insurance company, and they send ME to collections. At this point I'm livid and while thoughts of violence cross my mind I know I'll get the short end of that stick so I take her to small claims. I file and get contacted by Judge Judy (not herself obviously but the show). They dig through court filings to get juicy episodes. They say they'll put us on the air and no matter who loses the show will pay the winner. Fuck that. I want her to pay. I go to court, she doesn't show, instant victory for me. She contacts me and says she'll pay the judgment but if i make her pay my costs for serving her she'll never speak to me again. I respond please make the check payable to u/frinkey. Felt good man.

TL;DR sued ex-gf. Wanted her to pay not Judge Judy. I won.

One of the ways these shows get people to come on is that they pay both parties. The money she made on the show is going to pay whatever she wasn't going to get in a real court. So in the end, she won.
