I hope this is the right place to put this. I just wanted to share a little bit of hope.

My mother is 58, and she had her daughter and son (me and my brother) two decades ago. From the very beginning, my mother was careful to teach her children about equality and the unfair ideals of feminism. When I was younger and just starting to get exposed to feminists on the news and the internet, I thought my mom was sort of old-fashioned. I was taken in by a lot of the lies flaunted by the feminist movement, and I was motivated to be an advocate for them by a prevailing belief that if I wasn't a feminist, I was a misogynist. I was terrified of not being feminist for a good portion of my teenage years, for fear of social backlash. But my mom knew better. She let me believe whatever I wanted, but she stuck to her own. And that's what helped me come back.

I found out about this sub because of tumblr, sadly. Someone had conjured an image of MRA's as fat, self-entitled SJW's whose only noble cause was the abolition the "friend zone". This portrayal sparked my interest, as I had never heard of the MRM (by that name) before, and my interest led me to this sub. Once I started reading, everything my mother ever told me came back: the media is biased toward women, as is the judicial system, as is society at large. It's the awful truth, and my mother's known it all along. My mother never let me put men, or women, or myself down for any reason. She was aware of the bias and did everything in her power to make sure me and my brother were aware of it too -- me, so I would never think to manipulate this prejudice, and my brother, so that he could know his rights and stand by them. My mother knew equality like we know our own reflection.

My mother is the strongest MRA I know. I hope this anecdote has been a source of hope for some, even if it's only a small amount. The MRM is already being passed on to future generations. So stay strong!
