That's because women generally don't marry men below their "level", while men do.

It kinda feels to me that a female dominated society leads to more rigid social classes, leaving uneducated people with other uneducated people creating offspring that will be uneducated, because the parents have not much relation to education. Feels like that's worse than 50 years ago.

[–]sillymod 13 points14 points15 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Some people think that this is not a men's rights issue, but you have expressed exactly why it is.

There is a stigma against men who don't have degrees - this is a continuation of men being valued only for what they can do. This is going to be a growing issue for men and women until "feminism" actually does something to address discrimination against men.

Men are being beaten over the heads for their behaviours, for their different ways of learning, and then beaten over the heads again when they don't succeed in a world that tells them that they are everything that is wrong with it.

[–]Nadebait 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm technically well off. I'm however uneducated by my peers standards by having 1 year of realty home schooling and self taught day trading. I've always had women who just write me off as high risk. I don't have what you would call fidelity by "holding down a job" or having something of prestige by having that degree on the mantle. I chase white elephant deals, commodities, and work a level 2 trading account as a one man show. There's something about not being enslaved by their system that puts women off. They want the slo-mo $50k a year good credit rating beta male who's gone during the day and can be controlled by them. I don't answer to a boss and I'm not beholden to commute. I own my own home and I'm pretty good at cooking and cleaning. So there's no advantage for some wannabe dependa to come into my home and hold minor chores over my head like some welfare queen would to their children.

I'm also free from the constraints of needing a partner as a means of financial survival. The strong feminist types would like this no? But they're achievements have no bearing on my choice to commit to any relationship. Something the educated cuck in my income bracket always seems to fall for. I'm fine without the overhead or the debt. Only being a man when she wants me to be. No thank you.

Not sure why you got downvotes, I recognise myself in this. Not the same work but the scenario and its outcome are the same. Yes, women don't appreciate risk even when the reward is potentially greater. Ambition or acumen aren't important, it's entirely a game of what a man can provide now, status rather than success. To consider staying with a man they need a high degree of certainty to that providing. I also agree that women aren't comfortable when the man has absolute control of his life. They need a man to be manipulatable, to feel trapped. I often see talk about men being told to sleep on the couch and it drives me a little mad. It's my bed, my couch, in my house. If she doesn't want to be around me for some reason then she can go home. Women often talk about confidence being attractive but I find thats not the case. They project their own tokens of desirability as confidence.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

I think more and more men are nowadays wising up that it's not a good idea to marry someone poorly educated/unambitious, when you know for a fact she wouldn't be with you if the situation was reversed.

[–]Mad_hatter0 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well look how it pans out usually in society.

When a man dates a loser, he is with her for her heart and spirit and shit.

When a girl dates a loser, she's with a loser and she needs to "ditch that zero and find herself a hero" or whatever The View talk show bull shit they are saying today.

[–]192873982 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Is that the right thing to do? This will only increase the problem of impermeable social classes.

If men today marry below their social class, more women of higher social class are forced to marry below their social class too, or stay unmarried. That means that these women have to learn to marry below their level or remain alone. The current situation is probably not a bad thing.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

That means that these women have to learn to marry below their level or remain alone.

And how is that a bad thing exactly? Men have been doing this since we came into existence.

[–]192873982 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

That's my point. The current situation is not that bad for men at all in this regard.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

How is it not bad exactly to only be able to get a 'partner' who is more often than not objectively inferior to you?

[–]192873982 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

If you think such a thing as objectively inferior exists, you are probably the inferior in your relationship.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

You are a naive fool if you think it does not.

[–]192873982 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

"Objectively inferior" is the same thing as inferior in every aspect there is.

A woman and a man who are both fertile both have at least one ability that the other can't possibly have (the woman can get pregnant and the man can get a woman pregnant). This means that a fertile woman cannot be objectively inferior to a man and a fertile man cannot be objectively inferior to a woman. Fertile men can only be objectively inferior to other fertile men and the same for fertile women.

But even when we look at infertile people, or people of the same sex, objective inferiority is unlikely. There are just too many aspects and there's no fucking way that any person on the world is superior to you in all of them. I can even make up aspect where it's impossible to be superior, e.g. no one can immitate myself better than me, because I'm by definition a perfect immitation of myself and also by definition a perfect immitation of another person is not possible.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You misunderstand me. If you can only date down, chances are you will end up dating someone who makes less, is not quite as smart, as confident, as assertive, etc. This is where inferiority comes from, fertility has nothing to do with it.

[–]1928739821 point 10 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I know what you ment, but people with less confidence, less intelligence, less income and less assertiveness are not inferior at all, that's just scholars arrogance.

[–]PeteyMax 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Look at how much income inequality has sky-rocketed since the rise of feminism and the "sexual revolution". The two may not be related, but I'm pretty sure they are: first, when people are under more pressure to be monogamous, men are more equal because no men are monopolizing all the women. Second, think about a work situation. We all know it's a bad idea to have sex with your colleagues, but it happens all the time anyway and nothing destroys objectivity better. In a mixed sex work place where people are sleeping together, it's the man who's sleeping with the most women who will almost certainly gain the most status, rather than the one who's most competent. Finally, because women can now get higher status men by sharing them, the competition for women is much stronger and men are pushing harder to make a lot of money and achieve a high status.

[–]192873982 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

That makes no sense at all.

Income inequality has sky-rocketed because it becomes increasingly harder to get into a higher social class, which lets the wages diverge.

Also there was more pressure to be monogamous in the past, because of the church.

I don't think that job-success is that much related to fucking with your coworkers. The higher status by sleeping with coworkers is strange as well, I'd say it leads to lower status (because some of the girls he slept with are pissed and some men who know about his affairs are jealous).

[–]PeteyMax 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The church is, or should be, concerned with making people more equal. The abolition of the slave trade and the emancipation of women was at least partly brought on by ideas introduced by Christianity. Sex outside of marriage was considered a sin because of the problems it produces in society that are only now just beginning to come into play. The causal relationship, however, was never made explicit which is why the taboo was (relatively) easy to defeat.

Men tend to admire other men who sleep with or have slept a lot of women because they see themselves eventually gaining that position. Look at Hugh Hefner. When a woman sleeps with a man, it is usually because she has a high opinion of him. If not, she will often rationalize that choice by increasing her opinion of him.

Because dating is only done by people with bachelors degrees... of course.

[–]BigJ76 9 points10 points11 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Whoa whoa whoa. Now the men are required to have college degrees? Jesus, whatever happened to the only two rules for successful dating?

  1. Be attractive

  2. Don't be unattractive

[–]IcarusBurning 13 points14 points15 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That's for when you're in your teens or in college. After that it changed to

1: Have $$$

2: Don't not have $$$

[–]PerniciousOne 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Or have the potential for lots of $$$, either by profession or inheritance.

[–]WhiteThrone 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Haven't you heard there is dearth of 'date-able' men ... of course they don't tell you that to be considered 'date-able' a man has to pass the '666' test. Be 6 foot tall, have 6-pack abs, and have a 6 figure salary. Anything less and you are invisible and undate-able.

[–]porkchop_d_clown 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Unpossible. Everyone knows women are discriminated against in college, just like everywhere else.

[–]WhiteThrone 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Despite being able to dictate to universities their codes of conduct (to the detriment of the male students), women are discriminated against.

NY Times: On college campuses, a shortage of men

W. Keith Campbell, a psychology professor at the University of Georgia, which is 57 percent female, put it this way: “When men have the social power, they create a man’s ideal of relationships,” he said. Translation: more partners, more sex. Commitment? A good first step would be his returning a woman’s Facebook message.

Women on gender-imbalanced campuses are paying a social price for success and, to a degree, are being victimized by men precisely because they have outperformed them, Professor Campbell said.

Tom Wolfe: I Am Charlotte Simmons

“Charlotte…Charlotte…Where are the lacrosse players? Where are the lacrosse players?”

“What lacrosse players?”

“This guy—I’ve got to go back and talk to him…Charlotte, Charlotte!”

“How can you go anywhere? You’re like—I think you’ve had too much to drink.”

Beverly looked up into her face with the eyes of a bewildered patient. “Him, too, Charlotte! That’s the only time they talk—when they’re drunk! Charlotte!…This is my only chance…He was talking to me, Charlotte!…He says he doesn’t want to get involved…But I don’t care! I have to hook up with him tonight.” More tears, whimpers, gasps. “Where are the lacrosse players!”

Charlotte said, “He says he doesn’t want to get involved? Isn’t that a kind of a hint?”

“But he was talking to me! I gotta go find him while he’s still interested…”

[–]WhiteThrone 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Soo.... when men have the social power they create a situation of 'more partners and more sex'.

What does that say about history, when the dominant form of marriage for the last 2000 years has been monogamy ?

[–]bertreapot 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Someone on another thread in this sub (i forget who or where) had a good theory: that today men mistakenly try to attract women with traits they want in a woman, and vice versa. So women think getting a degree will attract a successful man with a degree, and men think being a nice, considerate man will attract a nice, considerate woman.

The reality is quite the opposite. Women hate "nice guys," to the point where you see feminists today saying nice guys are probably rapists. Men want a nice, considerate girl, but most women today are rude as shit to men, thinking that acting like a bitch makes them a "strong, independent woman."

Men with degrees might care about women with degrees to the extent that they don't want to marry a freeloader, but it is probably assumed in most relationships that after marriage the man will do the majority of the work, while the woman will be more focused on raising the family. So the weird shit we're taught to do in our 20s to pair up really isn't effective.

[–]BetterBadIdeas 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Real kicker is: of these 'college educated women', most have useless vanity degrees. Think about it: women make up the majority of grads, but men still dominate business and the STEM feilds, so the majority of women are getting non business or STEM degrees (we already know this). However they think thier European theater MFA or whatever bullshit degree the racked up 30 years of debt for, suddenly entitles them to date doctors, lawyers, engineers and businessmen.

[–]bertreapot 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It is very odd. I suppose the thinking is, if you want to land a husband with a degree, you need to get one, too. But women don't want to get engineering degrees because it doesn't interest them. So, BFA in theatre it is.

Honestly quite a lot of men probably don't care. Most professional men I know married women with bullshit degrees. I think a worthless degree is symbolic. The woman can show the world that she wasn't just out to marry a guy with money, that she, too, has earned a degree, and is also pursuing her own career goals. That "career" might be a pretty cush job, but hey, that's our world now.

[–]Quadraphonic- 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

"New York City has got a major man deficit - there are 100,000 fewer college-educated men than there are women."

Implied is one is not a man without a degree. GTFO

[–]garglemesh42 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

If the women don't like it, they have a few options - they could move or lower their standards.

It really is funny how ridiculously high most women's standards are for men when compared to men's standards for women.

[–]Quadraphonic- 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Its actually good news the most entitled women are missing out on reproduction. Their own toxic ego is dealing them right out of the evolutionary game. The higher their standards the less likely they will be successful.
