The Duluth Model is flawed - so flawed as to lack any scientific or academic credibility. They can argue all they like, but it simply shows they are ideologically inculcated in a cult and victim mind set.

According to the manual (Duluth Manual), the basis for these beliefs came from a sample of 5 battered women and 4 men who had completed the Duluth program. This then became the empirical foundation of domestic violence practice: a sample of nine clients recently completing an ideologically infused intervention. The authors (and those who support this model) apparently do not realize the obvious problems with the samples' small size or lack of representativeness.

Well isn't that special. This just another log on the roaring male disposability bonfire.

Simply put, the Duluth Model assumes that too many men are getting away with DV within the current system of justice, so all men need to be arrested if a complaint is made to the police. The rights of men are tossed in the trash based on an assumption that has long been proven to be false.

The Duluth Model is crap. Police can tell when DV has been committed. As a matter of fact, it really serves no purpose other than to enable women to enlist LEAs as weapon against their partners on a whim. This doesn't diffuse conflicts, it escalates them. Same goes for ROs (generally they go hand in hand).

Oh and yeah - Australia... Not shocked.

By comparison, male suicides in UK prisons massively outnumber women's, in the most recent figure in the source I found by 20:1 or even as much as 60:1 in 2008.

Yet feminists have got their knickers in so much of a twist over women's self-harm in UK prisons that they want to abolish women's prisons altogether.

They're 10 times more likely than men to self-harm in prison.

Edit: I notice the Guardian has swapped the column headers for 'Male' and 'Total'. -_- If you download the spreadsheet the M:F ratio for all years is 1020:83 ≈ 12:1.

The harsh truth is that men tend to work, even while they're being abused (and often times, this is part of the abuse - he slaves away at multiple jobs and she takes all of his money and humiliates him) so that means that they essentially don't cost the system as much as women do.

Well, if we're being as heartless as that, why not remove all socialised medicine altogether? From a purely utilitarian perspective, since women take up the most resources in society and don't contribute as much as they consume they should be denied basic health care if they can't pay for it and left to die in the streets.

This is feminism in all its glory.

Makes sense. Why stop there?

Next we should give fathers custody by default, because women abuse children more often than men. Gendered programs should be designed to only see mothers as abusers.

We should have explicitly gendered hiring for high status positions, because women are more likely to have babies and quit working.

Think of the costs involved with all those women who get degrees only to immediately get married and not participate in the labor force. Really only men should be going to college right AMR? It's the utilitarian thing to do.

Side note. Why don't people realize that you can't justify a prejudiced system with the outcome of that prejudiced system? We only arrest men for domestic violence! Why? Because look at the statistics! Look how many men are getting arrested for domestic violence!

I read all 19 comments up to the time I posted this and I really think the only way I'll understand this is if I spend about two or three hours researching. But what I seem to be gathering here is that this Duluth model is to favour the women in a dispute or battery case or something, because it... yeah, I am really not getting it. It sounds like a bunch of really intense bullshit that a misandrist tries to talk circles around people with until they're confused enough just to say "fine, just go".
