So did anyone ask to have the temperature modified, or did they skip straight to bitching?

Uh.... How the fuck are men supposed to do anything about biology? It's also a lot more difficult and expensive to cool down than it is to get warm so don't get me started on that.

As somebody who suffers when the temperature gets above 16 degrees celsius fuck this idiot.

As my grandmother used to say: When you're too cold, you can always put on more clothes. When you're too hot, only so far you can go.

Plus, I'd like to know where this was from: "Researchers had their hands on the controls at an insurance office for a month. And when they warmed the place from 68 to 77 degrees, typos went down by 44 percent and productivity went up by 150 percent."

I'd always been told colder offices are more productive because workers are more awake and alert -- the warmer you go, the more lethargic everyone becomes.

That, and people not sweating tends to smell better.

I'm a 30 year old guy, and I say what your grandma said all the time. This is awkward.

I felt my IQ drop after reading this.

while the women dress for the season.

If you know your office is going to have the ac on then maybe you should dress accordingly, like the men. I mean really. This is self induced torture.

Saw this posted earlier on TiA and commented on that so gonna copy across my post from there.

"I found a trio, two women — shoulders bare — and a man, in handsome, Navy twill pants and a smart, checkered button-down shirt, eating lunch together."

Of course the women are cold they are wearing bare shoulders, probably a dress or bare shouldered t-shirt with a skirt. Ok so maybe the thermostat is set too low for that type of clothing so maybe they should wear more. Though that raises the inevitable point of why should the women wear more as opposed to men wearing less... because men are held to a much more strict view of what is considered smart business dress.

Men pretty much have to wear long sleeved shirt and smart trousers at the least, potentially tie and jacket in more strict environments, that is all they can wear. Women on the other hand can wear pretty much whatever they want so long as it is not offensive or sometimes visibly branded.

If the men could turn up to work during summer in shorts and a t-shirt then I am sure they would have no problem upping the temperature on the AC. But nobody would see that as smart dress (neither men or women) and so they are not allowed to do that.

It's a lot more feasible for someone who is cold to put on a jacket or sweater, than it is for someone who is too warm, to take off clothes in an office.

Also, if you think this is a real issue, then start letting men wear shorts to work. Most places, it's considered unacceptable, unfortunately. In contrast, women wear nearly whatever the fuck they want and nobody is allowed to complain.

Personally I prefer the cold to the heat, but I am a pasty-faced Englishman after all...

I hope this makes it higher up on the sub. I know it might seem like a trivial article, but the fact is that this appeared on the front page of my WaPo app today. The Washington Post for god's sake - arguably the second paper of record in the fucking country. This is what its readers are exposed to.

I wouldn't have a problem catering to women however when I have to wear a suit and pants 24/7 even in the summer while they can choose a nice dress or professional skirt I'm keeping the air cold....either I can wear short sleeves and shorts and keep the temps warmer or you can bear the cold...some women want it all.

[–]TheDude41 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

A good reason to wear your meninist tee shirt to work.

[–]stop_stalking_me 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Never mind the fact that men are limited to wearing hot pants, hot shirts, and a doubly hot sports coat or suite jacket even in the middle of the fucking summer. You'd think with all the clothing options women have even with business attire this wouldn't be a problem. Also, it's easier to warm up than cool down. This person is a fucking idiot.

Activist reporter asks a handful of people she personally selects about their office temperature preferences. --> Irrefutable evidence for a gender difference in temperature preferences found!
