His twitter account just ran into a doorknob, right?

He's protecting his abusers.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points11 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Okay, that doesn't magically make the absurd complaints any more valid, or the harassment any more acceptable

[–]Faryshta 8 points9 points10 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

buzzfeed is FAMOUS for faking interviews. Until i see it from another source i won't believe a word there.

[–]guywithaccount 12 points13 points14 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh, okay. So we'll all just overlook the flood of abuse and ridiculous accusations from feminists and pretend it never happened or didn't matter, because Whedon says it's not the reason he left Twitter.

So, what - abuse only matters when someone damsels?

Two possible explanations: He is telling the truth. He isn't telling the truth.

Both have arguments. At this point, without further evidence to the contrary and without a clear explanation of why he quit, it is better to withhold judgment.

Eh, I know absolutely nothing about any of this drama except that this one single tweet is enough to see that this guy is beating around the bush. It kind of sounds like the old "I'm not racist, I have black friends" argument.

You, sir, are quite the fool. This is not how gender politics works. Here, let me explain:

When a story comes out that supports your narrative then you latch on to it, retweet it, and don't bother to fact check. But when one comes along that contradicts your narrative, then dig deep and uncover facts that Sherlock Holmes would have over looked.

You want TRUTH?! In gender politics?! Don't be absurd.

Seems to be an excess of that lately... or maybe I am just sensitive to it right now.

I love Whedon, his stuff is good, IMHO. His Astonishing x-men run (or twenty five issues of the "Kitty Pryde show") was the best x-men comic I've read since Age of Apocalypse, which was the best x-men comic I've read since 1985, when John Bryne left for DC. In other words, Astonishing was one of the two best x-men runs in thirty years. It sold like crazy, that's a big reason why he got to direct the Avengers.

Fans love him, and I believe he really thinks he's doing the right thing. A man who can see doesn't hate a kind, decent man who is blind, a man who can see pities the man who cannot, and wishes he could see. We want Stevie Wonder to be able to see, I would go a long way to allow someone like him to. We want Joss Whedon to be able to see, just in a different way.

Joss Whedon is beloved because of what he has accomplished. Unlike a lot of other creators, he looks towards the future and he's willing to mentor the young. He gave Sam Loeb his first comic book writing gig before the kid had finished High School. If you read Sam's work, before he tragically passed away, the kid had massive talent. Whedon was willing to take a shot on Sam. He sticks by his friends, is fair-minded, liberal and believes in the promise of equality, regardless of race, gender or age. The New Avengers team that assembled at the end has two African American men, a woman and an android. That's Whedon's personality.

I think feminism, especially in the west, is bat-shit crazy, and I'm not upset with Whedon. He's an eyes-wide-open victim of it. I hope he can see the light, I'm not holding my breath, and as long as his stuff is good, he'll still get my money.

I'm obsessed with Astonishong X-Men. And I love Armor. And I know I'm not completely blind/biased in this men's right deal bc I still like Whedon no matter what. I also like Sarah Silverman, despite that whole thing she had going a coupla weeks ago. This whole thing is a good experiment about liking an artist's work despite what an artist believes.

And I'm still glad at least men-fanboys are not the reason he left Twitter (I hope).

I am too, I cherish every issue of Whedon's run on that book with Cassidy. It was 25 issues of the "Kitty Pryde show" but I liked that, as Kitty is my favorite x-men character. I tend to be the kind of guy who picks up things and thinks "now my life is complete" and other people ask me "really? You needed THAT to complete your life?" Example, I was in the LCS today and I found that Harlequinn vs. Captain Carrot was on the shelf, and I found myself wondering why someone, somewhere, hadn't written this story twenty years ago. I can't think of a more obvious premise for wacky hijinks, the story writes itself. In my experience, the best comics are the ones where you hear the premise and the first question you ask is "why didn't someone write that story a long time ago? Its so amazingly awesome and also really obvious."

Doing twenty five issues of the Kitty Pryde show, and demonstrating exactly why, when Wolverine got control of the Xavier school sometime ago, he renamed it the "Jean Gray school for higher learning" and installed Kitty Pryde as headmaster. Logan doesn't make friends easily, and Kitty is his best friend. It takes a lot to be Wolverine's "little buddy", Logan has no use for the weak. Despite her stature, Kitty is tough as nails, she has to be to pal around with Logan. I thought Whedon captured that part of it beautifully, and the entire story (particularly the return of Collussus) was just handled so well. He'll always get my money, as long as he produces work like this.

Yes that's a much better explanation ... at least if we ignore that it wasn't an alternative explanation at all. He denied he quit because of feminist attacks but didn't give any alternative reason.

Sad to say but this is just what you'd expect him to say if he did quit because of the feminists.

[–]jtaylor73003 6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Time to circle the wagons. lol

Well I guess if Sarkeesian call you and is nice that means no SJWs made you quit twitter. Funny I only saw a tweet that he didn't quit twitter because of the review by Feminist Freaquecy, yet his earlier statement was he quit twitter because of the backlash of how he portayed Black Widow.

Sorry SJWs you still the cause.

[–]PowerWisdomCourage 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Sarkessian is nice to him because he believes her BS narrative. They're also friends IRL, so it's not surprising she would call him.

[–]guywithaccount 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Uh huh. So is she going to stop claiming that only women are harassed online?

[–]PowerWisdomCourage 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Of course not. He's probably still complaining about violence against women in video games. Which, by comparison, is non-existent.

So, I called this a day or two ago:

So he got a call from the party leader telling him it looks bad if he doesn't come back and recant from his original story. We wouldn't want the party feminism to look bad.

Nyet, First comrade Sarkeesian, we wouldn't

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Perhaps he thought that he can feel the pulse of the young by making himself an avant garde Twitter personality, a young rebel fighting for the oppress against the Man perhaps. But then he decided it wasn't worth the trouble. Too much anger? Too little good material for another Buffy?

[–]bertreapot 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

for awhile there i thought Whedon had smartened up when he said he's been attacked my militant feminists ever since being on twitter, and every branch of feminist attacks every other branch. that statement should be enough to show he has knowledge that the current feminist movement is ridiculous.

instead he says, feminists need to stand together! oh yeah and Anita (first name only) called to make sure that I'm ok. So he's 100% on the side of feminist ridiculousness, because it's the PC thing to do.

[–]emperorhirohito 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So why did he go?

I'd be fucking insulted if 'fem freq' posted that and then tried to 'reach out' to me as if they're a friend. What a baby bitch rofl
