Wow, reading the title I assumed he did this only to fight the discrimination, but he has a very clear and legitimate reason for wanting to go to that school. I really, really hope he wins.

Snark aside, I wish him luck. I've no problem with private colleges having their own admission rules (provided that all other private colleges can too), but if we must have public colleges then they have to be meritocracies.

He'd win the case easily in the USA, not so easily but still win in Europe, and in Canada he might lose. All these countries and Japan have an equality law, but in all cases they discriminate against men anyway to different degrees because equality is understood to mean women.

Wonder which way the Japanese equality law will be interpreted. Clearly the college has been getting away with sex discrimination for nearly 100 years so far.

I feel like the issue for him would be proving discrimination because he was a man and not because his application was simply denied.

Something tells me the reasons against this will be every stereotype of Japanese men being perverts, and the "it's a safe space for women that's why it's only for women". Since he has a legitimate reason to want to attend I hope they let him in.

I tend to view gender specific schools as a safe space for that gender and get annoyed when the other gender complains to be let in cause it's <gender> only and not for actual reasons like this instance. Like Britain and the boy scouts being forced to accept girls but the girl guides still refusing boys thing, they do the same thing so leave them seperate because their safe spaces.

I don't know how I feel about this considering I'm in full support for same-sex elementary schools. Not sure if I'm a hypocrite or not if I'm against an all women university. But it is university so it's different

one may say hes just looking for an opportunity to sue someone. for the sake of exploiting it. but i would say hes a hero of a man who wants the grandest of all harems.
