This looks like it is based on the Swedish model of criminalizing the purchase of sexual services.

And yet, there are many things wrong with the Swedish model:

As I have mentioned before, ultimately prostitution should be legalized, not for any sort of social good it would do, but for the sole reason that it should be none of the government's business what consenting adults do with each other as long as no one is getting physically hurt.

Trafficking is an issue in prostitution, but also is an issue in many other industries. They should focus on the trafficking aspect and not prostitution itself.

Since the primary purchasers of sexual services are men, the Swedish model simply serve to further criminalize male activities and put more men behind bars. Thisis not surprising given Sweden's status as "The Saudi Arabia of Feminism".

Why the fuck is it even illegal to do things associated with prostitution at all? It's two people deciding what to do with the bodies they were given and the money they earned.

Also it doesn't work. In every country that's employed this model it's resulted in prostitutes moving further underground, not less prostitution.

It's also quite obviously discriminatory and has at least once been challenged and deemed unconstitutional.

Canada is doing the same. Previously, prostitution was legal, but everything surrounding it (e.g. finding a prostitute, or advertising your services) was illegal. Now prostitution will be illegal, but only for the customer. In other words, there will be an industry of enticing customers into prison.

A few months ago I read that Sweden was seriously pushing the Norwegian model onto Ireland.

I see they're actually succeeding. I'm sure the rise in violence against prostitutes that accompanies this idiotic model, because surprise fucking surprise it drives it underground and makes it dangerous, will benefit them sooo much.

At the VERY least they are not punishing those individuals trying to make a living with it. While it will ultimately negatively affect them, its not direct. A slight silver lining.

There's a logic to this that may not be based on a fringe femme gaining ground. Human trafficking is a huge problem. Children are bought, stole, and sold into prostitution. By putting the blame on mens side (demand side) the human trafficking business becames much more dicey and preventable.

Human trafficking is a huge deal. Consensual prostitution is nothing. Consensual prostitution should be legalized somehow. Not only does it interfere with human rights, if it's illegal it always rears it's face in a nasty way like trafficking.

These feminists and religious fundamentalists will never stop. This is a national disgrace, and I hope Ireland rots in hell for allowing this blatant discrimination against sex workers. If two adults reach an agreement between them, why is the government putting its head into their private matters.
