Imaginge MRAs treated female "allies" this way.

Men are instructed to listen to women and follow their leadership, but if they seem overeager to earn female validation, their ulterior motives may be questioned.

This is a nice example of the kind of goalpost shifting that they advocate for in dating advances: the demands must always be described such that the goalposts can later be shifted to ensure the male got it wrong.

Should feminism focus squarely on women, or on gender itself?

Easy answer: do what you've been doing all along. That is, focus squarely on women, claim to want equality, and when challenged on that contradiction, claim to focus on gender.

If you’re a man, don’t answer those questions.

One man sent me 400 words detailing how his male privilege outweighed any possible nitpicking with feminists, concluding: “any struggle I face is about .00001 percent of the struggle women face in their day-to-day existence.”

You know, he might be taking the piss. I mean when I'm sarcastically saying stuff like that to feminists, I don't even exaggerate as much as he did.

You must admit, it is impressive how feminists manage to justify how "equality" means the precise opposite to them and have so many people nod in agreement.
