Classic blue pill shit here huh? Therapy. Good advice shit lord.

Well, I want to talk about it, because I'm in therapy, and I think there's misconceptions about what it is and how it stands to benefit you. Even if I were 100% mentally healthy - which I'm not - I would still go to therapy every month if I had access to it.

Why? Well, it's interesting. We spend a whole bunch of our lives considering the needs of others. Late stage capitalism leaves us with more work, and less time to just chill with friends. We don't get a whole bunch of time to be 100% self interested, and therapy is that for me.

There are some misconceptions about what therapy is. People think that they go there and some asshole with a degree tells them how to shape up and ship out. That ain't it. It is like 99% you just talking. Your therapist may just let you talk, or guide your dialogue by asking questions, but they don't solve your problems. You do.

"What's the point of that?! I could do that shit right now!!" Yeah. You could. But you don't. You think you don't need to say things out loud you already know in your brain. Tell me honestly, have you never, ever been talking to someone and had a light bulb moment? It's hard to explain, but when you say things out loud, or write them down, they become real. You are forced to stand by those words and figure out why you said them, if they're true, and how they're affecting you. And then you start to solve your own problems. Because that's what brains do when they're forced to.

I like therapy. I won't tell you to go if you're not with it. But if any of that sounded interesting to you, try it. If you don't have access to therapy for cultural / financial reasons, journal. Open a text document. Date it. Spill your guts. Save and close.
