Because when you get on these apps your looks are your personality for men. The better you look the more interesting you come across. Attraction comes first on there and then personality. Its pretty much the same irl. The better you look the more they will put up with.

Women do it for the top guys and guys do it for hot women. It just looks way worse when women do it because they claim that they look for the exact opposite then go for guys like those. If you dont believe its real you should try it yourself. And what girl would tell you thats the type of guy they swipe on? That would reflect poorly on them. They will just tell you one thing and do something else.

Think we all know what women say, and what they go for isn't the same at this point. Like women can say they want respect and to be equals and stuff, but clearly, that's not the men they go after lmao. It's clearly dominance and a challenge they're after until they decide to settle later on

If you look at research you find that what women say they find attractive and what actually predicts their choice of partner do not match.
You might suspect that these women are aware that their preferances would make them look bad if stated out loud, or you might wonder if they are fooled by their own flawed self-perception, but either way, what is generally said about attraction and what has been shown about attraction through data has little overlap.

Some examples include:
Strong racial preferances,
strong preferance for psychopaths / violence / criminals,
looks > everything else,
how your personality is percieved is mostly a consequence of how you look, the same behavior will come off very differendly when performed by a hot vs by an ugly person,
strong intuitive disgust reaction to men displaying weakness or emotion openly (sometimes including emotions such as joy and euphoria),
the list goes on.

If you've got a model of attraction based on what is generally accepted and known in public discourse, you will constantly be confused by what you are seeing out in the real world. We humans evolved in a deadly competition over recources. If you think considerations like what constitudes "toxic masculinity" had larger than 0% influence on what human females evolved to desire, you are living in a dream world.

What people say (and maybe even believe) they desire is influenced by what is percieved as acceptable / high status in their respective society.
What they actually desire is mostly not.
