People keep saying the OkCupid 80/20 rule means only the top 20% of men get laid or married.

Wrong.

The study says women will still message men below the top 20%. This telltale fact points to the reality of the situation: women will have sex with and marry men below the top 20%. The problem is they're not ATTRACTED to these men, which is why the sex lives of men below the top 20% fall off a cliff in the relationship. Her lack of attraction pulls their sex lives down into duty (starfish) sex or even a dead bedroom.

The relationship will rot from within in other ways as well, more arguments, more shit tests, cheating, and breakup/divorce. But the death of their sex life is the most common consequence of being a man below the top 20% who gets with a woman.

Only 20% of men will be attractive to women. Other men will get laid and married but the quality of sex AND romance that they get will be increasingly pathetic over time.
