At least one mediation is required in most jurisdictions. If you're talking to the judge to get them to see your point, you're not amicable.

95% of divorces are finalized before trial. The chances are high you will never even see your judge (I didn't), and you will resolve this in mediation.

Do not DIY divorce. I'm not an attorney but I've worked with hundreds of men going through divorce. The ones who have the worst outcomes are those that went the El Cheapo DIY Divorce. Between non-durable stipulations, lopsided agreements and continued financial entanglements these men find themselves in a never-ending nightmare of court actions. Divorce is a minefield and you don't want to end up like Lt Dan from Forest Gump.

Judge will probably order you to go to mediation. For me it was literally paying another lawyer to spend 75% of the time educating the opposijg party that they needed to produce financial statements 30 days after they had passed the deadline.

Get an attorney to at least advise you on the law and then decide what to do. That child support may be much less with a 50/50 custody. As others have said, you don’t just go in front of a judge who decides, and not knowing your rights is dangerous because you can’t change a divorce order later.

Your child support should only be 20% of the DIFFERENCE between your incomes.

IE - if she works making 40k and you make 100k, the support is only based on the difference of 60k.

If she isn't working right now, she needs to get her ass to work ASAP for the top range of pay she's qualified for. (Don't tolerate deliberate underemployment to game the system)

Talk to several attorneys before you do anything. Google and read “The List Men’s Divorce Forums” before you do anything. That number in CS sounds ridiculous. Good luck.

Mine is 2300 spousal..and that's low range. Indefinite also...

Fight the good fight my friend.. My told me ..CS is a science..look at the chart ..see what you make, what she makes ,higher earner pays the difference.

As for spousal support he said it's more of a art. Many factors go into that to determine the amount. Does she works , earning potential, who has the kids, etc etc.

Also..I have a attorney..13 months into my divorce.

We are now going to try a mediator. As recommended by my attorney. I'm a little apprehensive.

We aren't even on speaker terms.i assume this will drive out what she wants and how creative it can accomplished.
