So to make a long story short my ex decided to leave the marriage in April of 2021 because it wasn't what she envisioned. Well after going through the legal process I found out that our marriage license was never returned. We got married in her parents back yard at the start of COVID and she made it her sole responsibility to turn it back in. Well when she decided to leave I called up a buddy who works for legal on base and he told me to get a copy of the marriage license. Well after going to the court house there were no signs of a marriage license that was turned in our name. So I decided to check her home office at home after she moved in with her parents and I found the license sealed in the envelope. After finding out I immediately hired an attorney because the ex served me with paper for division of property (we were together for one fucking year that I thought we were married). Well I hired an attorney and after spending $10k my attorney was able to prove that the marriage was never legal because the State of South Carolina never got the license back. She tried to lie to the courts that it was our responsibility to turn it in but I had a witness that she told them she was going to turn it in. Well today I received a call from her attorney leaving a voicemail that she was calling on behalf of her client. Just as I had moved on with my life and enjoying new hobbies the call brought back the horrible feeling of the sheriff's knocking on my door serving me with papers, calling my command etc. Should I call her attorney back or just let a friend who is an attorney locally handle it
