Depending on where you live all of your funds during marriage are joint. "Your" money that was used to pay for the house was half hers. It happened to me.

Did you purchase the house before or after the marriage? She is entitled to half the equity since the marriage.

the only way to burden is lesser is depending on where you live and if it was a pre-martial assets.

if you have something she wants, you might be able to use that as leverage instead.

The judge will likely order the house to be sold and the accrued equity to be split. If you want to keep the property you can offer to buy out her half which might be the better long term strategy. You can also trade material goods for her half: furniture, appliances, whatever your attys can agree to. Be ready to walk away however as the bargaining can quickly get lopsided. There's not likely a scenario where she gets nothing from the property value.

I agree with “get a lawyer.” She is entitled to half, sometimes more depending on where you live. Also her ability to work, type of job she is qualified for, etc all matter in how much she will get if you are not in a 50/50 state.

She's more than likely entitled to half the equity of the house. If you want to keep the house you can look into cash out refinancing the balance and run the numbers from there. Need more info.

If the house inherited by you, maybe you’re good. If it was purchased after marriage, she is entitled to half the accrued value since then.

Depends.

Were you together when you bought the house? If so, it's half her house.

Did you have an agreement before marriage that you'd have separate money? If not, then half the money you made while you were together is hers, including the money that went to make payments on the house.

Is there a way to lessen the burden? Well, if the house is worth less, then that's less equity that she's entitled to. But don't be a scumbag and ruin the house's value, that's just evil.

If you're in the US, all assets and liabilities acquired during marriage are split 50/50. It doesn't matter whose name is on the mortgage, deed, title or utilities.
