I have two young kids and wanted 50/50 custody and placement time, she wanted me to have every other weekend. We did private mediation and spent 14 hours putting together a parenting plan to land on my proposal of 50/50. Unless you or a spouse owns a business, the financials are semi straightforward. I fought for some premarital assets I had before my marriage (short marriage of 5 years) and got most of that money. We couldn’t agree to a value of the marital home so we agreed to get an appraisal and I used that number to buy her out of her 1/2 of the equity. We also negotiated child support as my income fluctuates significantly year to year because I work in sales. It’s best to settle, the courts see dozens of cases a day and don’t have time to understand the nuances of each case, so you could get screwed
