Text or email (email is better) asking if she would take the kids that weekend. If she cannot then get a sitter for the weekend you will be away. I always gave my Ex first right of refusal. It was written that way in our custody. That way she couldn’t come back and say she had the kids more then me etc. if she said not. I got a sitter and that was that. .

Modifications that aren't specifically authorized by the divorce/custody agreement are typically unenforceable. "Making her" take the kids, in any event, is not something I can see a court enforcing. Seems like she just duped you but gave you more parenting time.

Cannot provide legal advice but check your custody agreement/order. Ours provides that modifications to the parenting schedule may be made via writing. Text is a writing. So that should do. However, if the consequences are that your kids won’t be cared for, unless it is something critical I’d think you’d want to make the sacrifice if she remains obstinate. Shows that you are responsible and she’s the irresponsible one. If her actions violate the court order I would think you could move for a remedy if it came to it (eg, reimbursement of costs), and also establish a precedent of her irresponsibility, but that’s really a question for your lawyer.

I don't know Maryland law but it is improbable that text message is legally binding. This is likely something you need a family lawyer for.
