Update: So I’m going for a revision with a different commissioner, then if that doesn’t change the temporary custody agreement. We are going to trial! I’m not giving up, I’m not! IM FIGHTING FOR 50/50!

Yup. Best interest of the child = Best interest of the mother.

Courts can give two cents on the rights of the child to know and have a meaningful bond with both parents.

It is all a sham.

When a woman weeps and cries in court it is a wrap and any man who dares defy this is seen as cold and evil by society.

If you spend more than a second in the r/divorce sub, you'll see women arguing that almost all states are "50/50", and the only men that don't get that are the ones that don't fight for it. Hell, u/Signal-Dot2326 is saying the same thing here in our sub. But the reality is that judges and the courts have a WIDE amount of discretion and leeway to interpret the laws, especially in divorce and custody proceedings. It really doesn't matter what the state codes say, your judge can rule as they see fit, and it's VERY hard to overturn once they ruled. And, unfortunately, there's a LOT of judges out there that see fathers as providers, but not as parents. They still operate under the delusion that you have to be a woman to properly raise a child.

There was a judge in my county who was that way. He was in his 80s before he retired, and his views on divorce and custody had been formed during the Leave it To Beaver years. He'd never give a man more that 2 weekends a month. At times, he would even overrule a mother OFFERING 50/50 custody. In one of his last rulings, before he was forced from the bench, he gave custody to a mother in prison, then awarded temporary custody to HER mother. The father was given weekend visitation. Dad had a clean record, and six figure white collar job and a home.......

I got divorced in AZ. Supposed to be a 50/50 state. My ex was adamant that she was to get full custody, visitation only for me. For maximum CS $’s. Plus it would make a better case for her to get alimony.

It took me, having to bring evidence of my ex wife’s recent conviction and jail time for DUI. DUI for having the kids in the car when she crashed the car while high as a kite on pills. That’s what it took to get me 50/50 custody. My lawyer told me “take it as a win.”

But he said to be thankful that I wasn’t the one to get a DUI. Because if that was the case? I would have gotten supervised visitation only!

Google “statistics men with 50-50 custody in divorce” and look at the images that show custody by state. Fewer than 20 top out at 50-50, meaning most would be showing women landing 60-75%. Sperm and child support makes us fathers.

This is unfortunately true, WA state hardly listens to men during custody disputes and tends to give women more custody. However its much better when it comes to asset split

WA state has online legal separation which is supposed to be filed preemptively (soon after marriage) which lays out split of assets and alimony can be waived. Most men don't this, they tend to listen to lawyers and show up in court without a solid made up story (like wife abused the children etc. )
