i gave her three months notice on the utilities and shut them off. she tried to use it in court against me that i “left my kids in the dark”. i showed them several communications notifying her about it and they dropped it.

the mortgage i had to pay for six months until she got a court order granting her exclusive use of the house and ordering her to pay. she still missed a few payments and dinged our credit. the court ordered her to sell the house after 18 months of litigation.

i kept records of all the things i paid and it came out to about $19,000. we then used that as leverage to get ms to keep my rv.

not sure any of it mattered but my attorney made $60,000…

I just gave her the logins and contact info for all the utilities, and said “There you go.” They were already being auto-payed out of our joint account, which I quit contributing to, so was a fairly painless transition.

Moving out isn’t a legal event. Getting a divorce is.

If you’re still married, you may still be obligated to pay.

What is your legal status? Married, divorced, have you filed?

Had to all but cut them off to get mine to put them in her name.

Water bill was still in my name over a year after the divorce was finalized. Had to tell her that if it wasn’t out of my name by the end of the month it would be shut off.

Luckily the power was already in her name.

Honestly if there are kids/custody involved just pay the utilities. As someone noted they will use this in your custody dispute. If there are no kids internet and cable just cancel no worries. The other majors I think you just tell her to change. If she doesn’t I don’t know if that is a hill to die on. Two lawyers discussing this type of nonsense is what attorneys live for.
