Where there is an income disparity, the spouse who makes less is more likely to receive support. And as a matter of law, spousal support is generally gender neutral. But like all alimony/spousal support it comes in a few flavors so you need to see which flavor applies to you.

It drastically differs from state to state. In some states, it’s very unlikely that either party would receive support. You basically have to lack capacity to make a steady income.

Really depends on what state you're in. Laws and practices regarding alimony vary dramatically, ranging from:

Alimony is assigned according to need -- i.e. you are only entitled to your budget shortfalls
Alimony is some fraction of the difference between your incomes
Eligibility and amount are determined separately, and unless one of you pretty much nerfed his/her own career in order for the other to have a career there's no eligibility, and even if eligible the amount could end up being $0 if there isn't a need for it.

Generally spousal support is supposed to be gender neutral, and it's whoever makes more is the one who pays. In reality, given an identical set of facts but with genders swapped, women are awarded more.
