How much does living with your parents affect your attractiveness in the eyes of women?

Having your own place is one of the most important aspects of dating success.

This is usually not because of how attractive you're perceived to be because most people know the housing market is fucked and don't realistically expect other people to live alone. The younger you are the more tolerated it is. Alas, i would recognize that to some women, having your own place is indeed a turn on and makes you be perceived as a "real", well established adult.

Rather, having your own place is important in the sense that you need good logistics to make the most out of the opportunities you got. Sex is a spontaenous and emotional act. For sex to happen you need to, well, be on a location where sex can happen. Comfortably, safe, unrushed and self-inviting. If you don't have this said place, you're gonna lose opportunities as you'll be massively reliant on luck or the girl inviting you over. This is tricky because most women don't feel comfortable having an agentic and assertive role in "inviting a guy over" for sex. It kinda puts pressure on them as if they're "leading you on" and can't eventually "say no" if they change their mind because they're the one's that invited you in the first place.

You can always have sex on a car or on a house you share, or a motel, but then again these are not " Comfortably, safe, unrushed and self-inviting" places. Just the other day, i read an article saying that close to 40% of people never had sex on a car and about only 1/3 admited they had "hook up" sex, which would lead me to suspect that at least to a certain subsect of a population, having sex in a car is a no deal.

So yeah, i don't mean to imply that you're fucked if you don't have your own place, but it's important. On the very least, get your own car, house share, etc... living with parents is that much of a cockblock.

It depends a lot on who you want to be involved with.

I lived with my parents until I was 24 and I managed to date. I noticed that the women I knew *also* lived with their parents but we didn't judge each other. Glass houses and all that.

If you are on your own at 23 or 24 there are good odds that you are either in a decent paying job or are driven enough to be out of your parents home that you are willing to sacrifice to do so. That math changes as you get older, but that is a ways off for you yet. (I'm 46 and I live with my Mom & she does my laundry is a different story than I'm 23 and I like my family more than I trust the other 23 year olds I know)

Some people demand money or personal independence from who they date. If you want to be with a person that values those things the "living with mom" thing will be rough.

If you are open to people who like living with their families it shouldn't be weird.

So it technically lowers the dating pool from "everyone" to "people who are cool with me living at home", but you aren't trying to find any random person. I wouldn't worry.

To me it's only a problem if there's not a reasonable explanation for it. Being a student is a perfectly good reason to live with family. As is the local housing market being very expensive compared to wages, having care responsibility for a family member, getting their lives together after a big breakup. All in all, there's good reasons to be living with family at all ages of life, but nothing beats the freedom and privacy of having your own place.

If parents live in your house you wont loose much on attractiveness or if your parents are rich and you living in large villa.

It wasn't a problem when I was a student I started my longest relationship when I was still living with my parents and I lived with them all 4 years of college until a couple months after graduation, now in terms of mid-twenties I can't answer that but while you're still a student , it shouldn't be a huge problem

It's pretty normal for a guy your age to be living at home, to be honest. Someone already commented that it does make stuff like sex/romance kind of awkward if your parents are hanging around, and I agree. I think it depends on your relationship with your parents. Personally I'm a little shy and I'd be worried if your parents were overbearing - like am I going to be judged, are your parents hoping you bring the 'right' kind of girl home, are they super conservative and going to be put off by my being there or the way I look somehow, are they going to insist we all have dinner together and act formal, do they expect you to be getting married soon...cause that's a lot of pressure when I'm just trying to get to know you and hang out. Or are they totally chill and will just leave us alone, etc. I'd appreciate knowing the situation beforehand.

It's hard to make any blanket statement here. Everyone is different. Speaking for myself...if a guy was unemployed, unambitious, living in a dirty teen looking bedroom and having his mommy clean up after him at 23? I'd be turned off. If he was in school, or working, and had goals in mind (saving for down payment or other means of independence) I'd say hell yeah, I'm jealous, that's a smart plan and I kinda wish I'd stayed home longer to save too.

My boyfriend in college lived at home to save money and to take care of his mom who was going through a recovery from a stroke. Dad was a long distance trucker and was gone a lot. I thought more of my bf for it. He shopped for groceries and drove his mom to appointments and she was totally cool about treating him like an adult and letting us have our time.

Wouldn't even dream of trying to stick it in a girl if I was past college age and living with my parents.

Edit: But then again, I met my wife when I was 19, living with my mom, at community college, and had nothing. So I have no perspective dating post college.

At your age I wouldn’t worry too much about it, your still young. As long as you have a goal in mind and making steps to eventually move out. There are women who will date you, it’s much harder today to live on your own. Especially if you live in an expensive city. I think you would be worse off then to move out only to struggle financially. Is it harder for privacy of course, but in the long run it will pay off when you save money and have a nice apartment and a good job!

Living independently at your age should be a goal. Of course there are tons of benefits to living alone other than attractiveness to women.
