In short, it's a scam. To elaborate, they are probably trying to sell you a useless something. Perhaps e-books filled with plagiarized motivational bootstraps nonsense, MLM schemes, NFTs, etc.

It also draws in the desperate(need money fast), the arrogant(I'm smarter than others so I can succeed at this), the gullible(doesn't know when offers sound too good to be true), the greedy(I need more more more), the ignorant(Capitalism is the best system ever!) etc. Basically it draws in deeply flawed people. Marks. Who are more likey to get invested.

It's always a scam and utter nonsense.

In a sense "making money online" could mean a million things. Virtually anyone who runs a business will in some way use the internet to make money, but they're usually selling some kind of skill or trade or product - one that's often been honed through college education or similar.

But that's not what these guys are usually on about. They'll be talking about trading Bitcoin or drop-shipping or scalping or becoming a YouTuber or MLM or some other oversaturated scam market where over 99% make a loss rather than any income, or where you have to actively screw people over to make any money.

There's absolutely a case for becoming self employed - I am myself and the freedom and flexibility it has given me is something I would never want to give up. But there are also drawbacks, benefits that you get with a stable job that you don't get when you're a freelancer.

Becoming self employed can be hard work, but I don't think that's what they mean with "the grind" either. As far as I can tell, "the grind" is just scamming people out of their money. I specifically went freelance to get away from the grind. I intentionally work less hours now, and make less money, but I'm happier for it (and no, making less money hasn't reduced my dating opportunities).

I also don't get this whole "breaking free from the matrix" to go into some shit like drop shipping or NFTs or whatever. Like, do you really think you've found freedom from the system by using fucking Amazon? Are you liberated by having to pay your own health insurance? Are you out of the system now that you just scam people for yourself rather than an employer?

I think it just sums these guys up nicely once again. They're a bunch of narcissists who will throw anyone under the bus for their own gains. They have no idea what they're talking about, but they'll happily scam people - including you, someone who might buy their dating course or whatever - to lift themselves up in this hyper-competitive reality that they've made for themselves.

They're just copy and pasted influencers. I wish people would see them as they are. They're not escaping The Matrix because eventually the well will dry up (or become over-saturated like now) and with most of them undoubtedly having spending issues, they'll crash and burn anyways.

I have a 9-5 job and I have an online eBay business. Not having a boss with the online job and working when I want is one of the most freeing things I’ve ever experienced. I never want to give it up and be stuck working for someone else.

They don't like authority (i.e. having a boss). They are far too immature to understand that EVERYONE has a boss. If you're in business for yourself, your clients are your boss. Basically, it feeds into their persepctvie on what it means to be a masculine, in charge man. NO ONE TELLS ME WHAT TO DO!!!! And then for those men who don't make it, they can paint them as weak and subpar and not hard-working enough.

He's so out of the Matrix and not a slave that he gets banned from these social media platforms that he makes money from.

These same dolts are the ones who say that men do the jobs that keep the lights on (electricians, plumbing, construction, etc) but then call them "slave jobs" and use those jobs in their questions to women "who would you rather date a guy with a lambo who has their own YT channel or that loser who drives a 2005 Nissan and works a job where he has to come out on weekends in 20 degree weather on a saturday to fix sewer lines"
