When we think about the elements of this classic romantic story, the protagonist is a woman who gets married to a man after splitting up with her handsome conventionally masculine(he works with his hands, goes off to fight in war) boyfriend. When she finds out he didn't die in the war, she cheats on her husband with him and decides he is who she wants to be with.

It kind of feels like it pushes the 'alpha fux beta bux ' and alpha provider mindset. Maybe this kind of literature actually primes its target audience(young women) to think that there isn't something wrong with leaving your long term marriage to go back to an old ex...like nothing had changed between the two of them or that his experiences at war didn't change him in ways shes not prepared to deal with.
