Alright, so I've been hearing that men cannot feel empathy. However, I do not believe this. I propose a different theory. It is my belief that it is possible for men to feel empathy, but for whatever reason most of them can only feel empathy towards those that they can directly relate too. Like, I believe if a man is abused as a kid, he can feel empathetic towards a woman who was also abused as a kid because they can directly relate to that experience. A commenter on one of my other posts stated that she bonded with a male friend of her's over a mutual trauma they experienced, and that's what really got me thinking about this. And it makes so much sense. For example, it would explain why they always doubt women in sexual assault cases, as they can't relate to a woman going through that. Also, it explains how they're so quick to point out any slight hint of prejudice or sexism towards them, but often remain oblivious to cultural sexism towards women. Of course, this is just a theory of mine, and I'd love to know what all of you think about it.
