Express this sentiment anywhere else on reddit, even the pro-women subs, and everyone starts drooling on about eNLiGhTeNeD cEnTrIsM. One side may not be as bad as the other, but that doesn't exempt it from criticism.
Thyroid cancer may not be as bad as pancreatic cancer but they're both cancer and I want neither.

The right wants women to be private property.
The left wants women to be public property.
Never forget that when it comes to struggles of race, class and gender, far too many leftist men are happy to ask women to simply ‘wait their turn’ when it comes to dealing with sex-based oppression while everyone else works to get theirs. Needless to say, while women ‘wait their turn,’ they’re still expected to be flawless, selfless allies to the other movements, while often being written out of those movements’ history - an issue within many circles dealing with classism, republicanism (the anti-monarchy kind), racism, post-colonialism and even environmentalism.

Every woman should be a libertarian whom believes women belong to no one but themselves
[–]EqvviFDS Newbie13 points14 points15 points 6 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
but libertarians are crazy too... And have way too many pedos in their ranks.
[–]tonha_da_pamonhaFDS Apprentice2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
Everyone is crazy, so in order to avoid that, youd have to just be non political, which is frankly stupid. Pedos are libertarian? First im hearing of a political affiliation associated with them. Is that based iff the notion that they should be able to do whatever they want?
[–]AnnieandFishFDS Newbie1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Pedos don’t want to be governed by laws saying they can’t have sex with children. The only libertarian I’ve met though has given policy a great deal of thought, and isn’t a pedo.
[–]tonha_da_pamonhaFDS Apprentice1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
If you look over our polices we are only ok with consenting adults, and activity that doesn't hurt anyone, so pedos dont qualify
[–]AnnieandFishFDS Newbie0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Yeah, and that’s obviously good. That’s just why pedos want to be ungoverned
[–]tonha_da_pamonhaFDS Apprentice2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Their logic doesn't make any sense. They also want to be part of the lgbt community. Nobody wants them in their party.

Partially what you said, but basically yes, reducing the role of government in interpersonal relationship, how they usually put it. More prominent political figures like chairman of Libertarian National Committee (Arvin Vohra) straight up said this:
We all know that different people mature at different rates. Biologically, people go through puberty at considerably different ages. The psychological variation, in terms of IQ, life experience, emotional intelligence, is even greater. One size could not possibly accurately fit all. And yet, out of fear of being called names, even many Libertarians fear to challenge this patent absurdity. .... Just as I believe parents, families, and culture should be the only people involved in education decisions, I also believe that they should be the ones involved in decisions about sexual readiness. In Ancient Rome, parents determined when their kids were ready. It’s safe to say that parents generally care at least as much about their kids as the state does.

I'm pretty sure I've seen more of those, but dont wanna spend all day googling it.
Libertarian subreddit usually removes posts about age of consent, that pop up a lot, but shit like this gets upvoted if not removed by mods in time:
Determining the best time for others to reproduce for the betterment of the nation is not libertarian
[–]tonha_da_pamonhaFDS Apprentice0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
On any libertarian principles site ive read were pretty clear that its only ok for consenting adults to be with each other and no one should be hurt as a result of freedoms.
[–]EqvviFDS Newbie2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
In theory, almost any ideology is good, in practice way too many libertarians are sketchy about the age of consent. Plus "being hurt" can be interpreted differently by different groups. It's not uncommon for libertarians to argue that "consentual" sex with children is fine because biologically children "are equipped to handle it." Queue all the whining about evolution, biology, early puberty etc...

Gross.

postcolonialism is not a leftist political movement, it's an academic analysis, kinda like critical theory. if you are an academic in postcolonial studies, you spend your time reading heavy theory by the likes of fanon and said. maybe you meant independence movements in ex-colonies?

Finally. This is how I've felt for a long time. FDS is the only place on the internet with the same political values as me when it comes to feminism
[–]ShinyDreams23Throwaway Account2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
So glad I found this sub. I have never agreed with the right or the left because neither seemed beneficial to women. For a long time it felt like I was the only one who saw it. Then i found FDS and realized i wasn't the only one seeing these things

Nonsense. Marx was a feminist and the left has been historically defined by feminists such as Beauvoir, Zetkin, Luxembourg, Krupskaya, Kollontai, Mother Bloor, Angela Davis, Mary Wollstonecraft, to name a few. Every noteworthy socialist or communist man had been a feminist as well. To say that leftism "wants women to be public property" is probably the stupidest thing I have ever read in an argument about political economy. The "socialism means open marriage"-myth was promulgated by the far right wing in the 19th century, and refuted by March and Engels themselves in the Communist Manifesto. Both men were "HVMs" by this sub's standards. Being a woman doesn't make you an authority on feminist theory or political ideology if you haven't read up on it. Otherwise it's embarrassing and insulting. It reads like female red-pillers trying to convince women that feminism and leftism are evil, and then making loads of bullshit up to try to not look so obviously MGTOW. They're the same people who will say nonsense like "I don't support protesters OR police", but are obviously more anti-Black than Anti-Police. I'm sorry, but I cannot in good conscience agree with such a post or with it's ignorant responses. To do so would be to roll back feminism by 500 years and ignore everything that feminist leftists have done for women. The suffragettes would be rolling in their graves.

There is a huge difference between renowned leftist philosophers and ordinary people who claim to be leftist.
Most of the left-leaning men I've met in my lifetime are highly critical of class based struggles yet are also antifeminist. Men who do claim to be feminist are actually just covert misogynists who still want to sleep with feminists.
[–]43rdaccountFDS Newbie1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
if those men are anti-feminist then they are, by definition of feminism as a progressive left-wing movement, anti-leftist.
if they claim to be feminist but as you said are misogynists, then they are not representative of any kind of leftism 🤷🏾
i totally agree that there are men who lie about their beliefs and who they are to take advantage of us, but i find truth in their actions not their words
[–]CoolMelonadeRuthless Strategist[S] 26 points27 points28 points 6 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link
All this can be true and they can still be exploiting women. And I’d be wary of the motivations of male feminists.
And haven’t leftists been pushing Polyamory, which we’ve discussed here as being exploitative....so weren’t they kind of right about “open marriage”?
no leftists have not been doing that. as the comment above you said, the myth of "leftists pushing polyamory and destroying our family values" has been a right-wing propaganda talking point since the 19th c.
leftist politics is about changing the capitalist status quo. movements like communism, socialism, democratic socialism, anarchism, all address serious socioeconomic issues like the exploitation of the working class, war and prison industrial complex, racism, commodification of people... they value education, solidarity, community, critical analysis ... not silly things like polyamory. what does that have to do with serious politics lol
[–]screamingracoonFDS Apprentice36 points37 points38 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I think OP was talking about US modern politics, rather than the foundations of communism and socialism.
When I was discussing with a friend about how Biden is not much better than Trump, her answer was “But he has a lot of women working for him!”, as if that completely dismissed the times when he was against abortions, against gay marriages and adoptions, and against the sexual misconduct allegations.
[–]43rdaccountFDS Newbie0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
is that anecdote relevant? biden is in no way and has never been part of the left. his politics and actions have always been anti-left
[–]screamingracoonFDS Apprentice0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Yes, absolutely, but now he is the candidate for the democratic party, which has always been at least left leaning. Of course, I’m not saying that he is part of the left, but now it’s far right against people who are mostly centered and are often seen as the scary “far left”, so...
[–]43rdaccountFDS Newbie0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
bernie was seen as the scary far left. rightwing news make fun of biden as being weak and senile (which he is). nothing scary or left about him
saying left politics is as bad as right politics is just sloppy and dishonest. "democrats and republicans are the same" is a totally different statement, and is accurate
[–]rinabeanFDS Disciple3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You talk about male feminists and tell other women to read up on feminist theory but you never even read Dworkin apparently. Try Right-Wing Women. Or was she a female red piller who hated feminism and rolled it back 500 years, and that's why you don't have to read her books before telling other women to?
Blaming everything including the things left-wing men do on the right-wing is childish, and anti-feminist. What men do to women comes from men, nothing and no-one else.
Nobody is talking about what Marx actually said - least of all self-described "marxist" men
thanks for setting the record straight comrade, couldnt have said it better myself. this thread is a hot mess
