Clothing question: Why are solids > prints? I’ve looked everywhere and can’t find a (solid, haha) answer.

Timeless! If you have low end clothing solid and dark colors hide flaws that higher end clothes don’t have.

Edit: But if you feel more fem in prints, wear them :)

Prints are better as accent pieces imo. Too much can overwhelm the eye. They can also, as another poster stated, fall quickly out of fashion.

I'd say it depends on the print. A classic floral in a good fabric can look good, but cheap fabrics and really trendy patterns tend to look bad. Most of the good prints I have were a bit spendy. The shape is also important. I love weird prints though. I'm ugly anyway so I get away with a lot.

I've always had a strong aversion to prints and could never really figure out why until recently.

Loud, distinctive prints and logos have a tendency to be too trendy. Think about Vera Bradley, or Vineyard Vines, or Lilly Pulitzer. A few years ago, everyone in a very specific demographic just had to have these brands... and that lasted for approximately five minutes. Now I hardly see anyone wearing them at all.

These kinds of fast fashion stores specifically engineer their product releases to make you feel off-trend in rapid cycles so you buy more of their stuff over the short term. Solids and classic styles are, by definition, timeless.

The girls who were wearing yoga pants, Uggs, and North Face jackets may have been hot shit in 2008, but that style was a fad. It was too trendy. A simple blazer paired with a well-tailored pair of jeans is always going to look good, and will never be out of style.

As it pertains to dating profiles specifically, prints are just going to take the attention away from you.

Solids make it easier for the fabric to look more "expensive" and avoids that dated look. Anna Bey has a couple good videos about this, but there are also non-FDS fashion advice that talks about this.

Solid clothing clothing on your dating profile just help to blend in and draw attention to your face and you rather than draw attention to the clothing because it's less busy than prints.

Prints are “louder” they are considered more noticeable thus making the woman more noticeable. What is considered unladylike? Being noticed or “loud” in a space. Solids let you be seen but not “seen” if that makes sense. It’s like we are there but it’s easier to ignore us.

For me the case is that I like a wardrobe with clothes that are mostly interchangeable. In the past I had many printed pieces (I really love houndstooth, stripes, and I also have a thing for florals), but I couldn't match them well. Sometimes it's the same thing with colours. I consider every item in my wardrobe an investment, so I need to be able to create many outfits with a small amount of clothes, even when it's summer for example and you can't really play with blazers/cardigans/jackets anymore.

Solids will always look more timeliness and classy. Prints can be a hit or miss, more seasonal and trendy.

Bahahaha everything I own is print! Ok. not everything. But majority of my trousers have a print and I look great so 💅🏼💅🏼 lol
