I had a phase where most of the men I went out with were engineers and those were the most thoughtful date planners.

I have to say that everyone I’ve ever ended up in a relationship with has been a HVM. I read “Why men love bitches” long before I started dating and it left an impression on me

day at the natural history museum, followed by dinner - Software Engineer. I’d mentioned wanting to go, and he made it a day trip.
dinner at a restaurant where we had to dine in the dark - aerospace engineer
trip to Paris - scientist

These were nice dates with men that I wasn’t yet “official” with.

I have a weird/awkward one. Dinner went well so we decided to go to Dave and Busters after to play a few games. Once we ran out of tokens to play, we went to the shop to pick out prizes with our points. He got really possessive over the points and didn't let me get a thing. He kept referring to them as "his points" and "his prizes". I mean he picked out prizes down to the last point and didn't let me get a single thing. There were 100 pts left, and I pointed out a bouncy ball I liked, and he got it for himself.

I will not be seeing this man child again.

I was in a relationship that almost lasted a decade and I cannot think of a "best date" scenario within that. Wow. It's honestly a little sad.

However, I was on a date yesterday that gives me hope: he booked a nice table at one of my favorite restaurants, showed genuine interest in my career and life, actually complimented the way i looked in an appropriate way, paid for everything and after the date was over brought me home, we kissed and he immediateley wrote me how much he enjoyed the eveninig and he would like to see me again.

This is what I imagined dates look like when I entered the single life almost 1 1/2 year ago. Boy, was I wrong...

Best: he was an attorney, we met up before sunrise, rode our bikes up to a peak where there's this old monastery. He had a picnic set up on an old stone wall where we could watch the sunrise.

I met a man on OLD who worked in IT and he spoke, wrote and acted HVM. We met at a high class restaurant for dinner and he was gorgeous...when I asked him to tell me more about his work, he told me he was actually FBI & worked in Homeland Security.

I laughed. I thought it was a joke.

He pulled out his badge/ID (which was in a leather binder type holder twice as big as a passport), and said he doesn’t tell anyone until he meets them in person.

I was just so shocked! Who knew what was really up with this guy! I never contacted him again, because that was just too weird...and I think I offended him, because he never contacted me.

Best date I can remember: HVM planned a lovely surprise date where I basically just had to get ready and he picked me up in his car, it was like date 3 or 4. He took me out to watch a musical (one I had mentioned during a random conversation that I wanted to watch) at the theatre followed by dinner at a nice restaurant (my fav cuisine). It was sweet because it showed that he actually listened to me and wanted to impress.

Worst: LVM asks me to come to a location which is 5 mins away from his place, saying that there’s a great rooftop bar near him. So I commute 45 mins to get near the location and he’s not there. He then turns up 20 mins late after I call him to say I’ve reached. He takes me to a random local restaurant. I should have just said where’s the rooftop bar? But I was too nice to him. We talk and I realise that he’s mixing me up with other girls, can’t even remember what I do for work. Then he starts stroking my arm in the most creepy way telling me how he can’t think clearly because ‘he’s distracted by my beauty’. It was really really odd. I felt extremely uncomfortable, went to the loo to think of an excuse and eventually left.

Too many bad/weird/awkward dates but I'll leave two recent ones:

Best date with a fake HVM who later on became a LVM because he couldn't push forward to more, but it's still one of the best dates I've had. He came over on our 4th date to make dinner for me. He made scallop risotto. He brought wine and dessert. I gave him my apron and he wore it the whole time. It was the cutest thing. Also teased him that he would have to rent my cooking tools with kisses. That was fun flirting for us. "Oh, you need a knife? Hmmm how many kisses do you think that's worth?". I didn't lift a damn finger. I just stood there and drank my wine while he stirred the risotto. He set the table too. I've had many men cook for me in the past. This was hands down the best dish I've had from a man. I was very impressed. We drank and had ice cream for dessert. We made out. I was very clear that was the extent of it. Did not hook up and he was fine with it.
Worst date in 2018: this guy was 38 and he's a lawyer. He picked a bar that was like a ghost town. When we both got there, I told him it's too empty to go inside. I wanted a better ambience. We walked to a different bar. This bar was grungy and in an area where people in their mid 20s hang out. Why is it a deal breaker? Well, we sat at the bar and he essentially drank like 5 beers in less than 2 hours. AND FROM THE CANS! I asked about his living situation. We live in a very expensive city. He has three roommates and he'd been living there for over 5 years. I guess he has had multiple roommates there but he's been the one that stayed there the longest. I asked him if he plans on living there in the future. He said 'hell yea, it's great. I don't see myself living anywhere else until I have a family'. I'm thinking 'who the hell would want to family you up?' The bar we were at probably is his regular bar with his roommates who are in their 20s. This guy clearly did not plan on growing up any time soon. Also, I'm pretty sure he's the old guy hanging out with the young dudes. I left him at the bar around 9pm.

He gave me some edibles, took me to his favorite restaurant (which I also love), and we grabbed boba afterwards.

Walked me around downtown to show me where to buy an investment property since I expressed interest! This was the best part, he took my interest seriously and has since sent some properties for me to look at.

It was remarkable because he showed a lot of little things; always switching to walking on the street side on the sidewalk, opening EVERY door for me, obviously grabbing the bill without a single fuss. Initiating subsequent dates and planning them out. And he's perfectly okay being friends if things don't work out too, since he's allergic to cats and I have 2.

A cool date was spending a day at the national zoo. Then we went for fine dining in this restaurant that's in this old hotel I really love (our clothes were casual but he was a frequent diner there, lol). He didn't know how much I liked the building and always meant to check it out. So it was points for him. It was a nice day.

Dinner, coffee shop break to study (I had a test the next day and he wanted to help), then we spent some time at a rose park where a jazz band was playing outside. He asked me out then so it had to be a good date lol.

Most mediocre date was last weekend, had lunch, convo wasn't flowing, got coffee afterwards where he proceeds to show me a 15min TED Talk about magic or smth. I asked him what he learnt about it, he said 'magic is real.'
