Does anyone else think that shows like the Bachelor are absolutely disgusting?

I do and that's why I don't watch it. I don't watch reality shows centered around stranger's personal lives either. One show I did enjoy back in the day was Wife Swap. I don't even know if it still airs.

I may be a minority here so I’ll welcome the downvotes lol but I enjoy the bachelor/bachelorette. I like observing the dynamics and most of them go on the show for exposure. Once you’re on the bachelor you can be on different shows like Bachelor in Paradise which can further your “career”.

I’m married which means I can’t date (it’s cool, I don’t want to anyways!) so I kind of live through them if that makes sense. I like seeing the male/female interactions and the same sex interactions when competing. To me it’s more of a curiosity thing and need for cheap entertainment sometimes.

Plus people go on it to have their pretty faces on tv and their egos stroked. Would I go on it? Absolutely not. Would I watch it after a long day of work? Yes. 👀

Bachelor is a guilty pleasure of mine. But so is the Bachelorette. I think it’s because I like people-watching and seeing how people handle harder situations.

Lately, I’ve noticed that the women on the newer seasons of the Bachelor have been closer to each other than the past seasons. It seems like a lot of the women form genuine friendships. I enjoy seeing the women looking out for each other and caring for each other. I also enjoy seeing some of the women and their confidence in themselves. A lot of those people are very secure to be able to go on a show like that.

The whole show is fucking crazy!

You got this one guy (or woman) who may look good but really isn't all that.

And then you have all these people who are supposed to be "there" specifically for this man. This man you don't know, can't possibly have real feelings for, haven't vetted at all. But if you even show halfway normal, well-adjusted concerns like "hmmm - I don't know if this guy is right for me" then all hell breaks loose. Like you should be 100% invested in a person when you have a 4% (maybe) chance of being selected.

I do think it’s Pickmeisha central and have hated it since it’s first episode, and I’m sure I was in my teens then. I found it demoralizing, thinking all these women are fighting for one man. I watched one episode and will admit, you see one, you see them all and you see how not to act.

I love seeing pick me’s fall on their face only to realize dude wasn’t all that so in a way, this show is perfect for that. No one is actually there for love, just to gain Instagram followers.

It’s so cringe inducing I can’t even watch it ironically.

I loved the show on Lifetime called UnReal (it’s a series not reality tv). It’s basically like behind the scenes of a show like bachelor. It’s really well written (the last least gets a bit unhinged). It’s one of my fav shows in the last couple years. Highly recommend it!

Yep - flips the reality and sells this false idea that men are the prize. It’s part of a huge international cultural lie made to oppress women. Seriously even if we weren’t in civilisation and didn’t have a history of patriarch and didn’t have religion underpinning our culture, men would still be chasing. Even Male bird chase female birds.

I had to actually come back to this thread today to make a comment about how I’ve noticed that the communities that surround shows like the bachelor and bravo housewives shows are chock FULL of pickmes!!! The subreddits are insane. Women will get up on a soapbox make posts spilling intense vitriol about other women on the show… A show that is heavily edited to create drama for the viewer. All I see is intense internalized misogyny while they continue to make excuses for the male bachelor subject who has glaring flaws but is hot. It’s truly sad

And 90 day Fiancee, where a woman basically selling herself to some jerk so she can escape her country. It's enough to make me cry.
