That guy you are dating, he isn't Prince Charming, he's a man. A human being. He is not your perfect Prince Charming in spite of one major flaw, or several, that you just have to overlook. I see this sentiment a lot among women, on this subreddit, and even in the way I used to be.

However wonderful he is he is human. Relationships can be difficult. Living together is difficult. Sometimes you get tired of people, you don't want to have sex with them, you get annoyed by the little things they do. That means he needs to be fantastic to make it work.

Just like job searching or buying a house, or literally any other thing in life, you should be making a list that is everything you could ever possibly want and checking him against that list. You should not be making your list based on the minimum you're willing to accept. I see a lot of women who act like he is some kind of Prince Charming except for this or that. This is only going to get you someone that meets your bare minimum and will probably fall even lower.

Think about that saying to shoot for the moon and you'll fall among the stars. You should be asking for more than your bare minimum, a lot more! Just because your bare minimum is 5'8 doesn't mean you shouldn't be looking for someone who's 6 ft if that is what you really want. I don't want to be with someone who's 5'8. I'd prefer someone 6 ft tall, bare minimum is 5'10. If you want somebody who makes 100K then look for somebody who makes 100K rather than accepting 40K. If you want to be a stay-at-home mom stick to your standards and find somebody who will be able to support that. Stop selling yourself short and accepting things you don't want. Don't low-ball yourself. It just does the LVMs work for him. Patriarchal society wants you to lowball yourself, to settle. Don't.

*But what if he's the love of my life and all I have to do is accept that he's 5'8 and has bad teeth????"

But what if he's the love of my life and the perfect match for me except for the fact that he's ugly and doesn't take care of his body???

What if he is the perfect man for me except for the fact that he has no drive and barely works???

This is a symptom of low standards, low self-esteem, being taught you're not allowed to have things you want and scarcity mindset. Women are constantly taught that we have to accept what's put on our plate, not reject it or ask for more because that's selfish, presumptuous, petulant. We need to make our own plate. If we don't we will only ever get scraps. You are allowed to ask for what you really want and get it.

He is not a fantasy. He is a real person. He's not Prince Charming. Don't live in a fantasy world.
