How do you guys feel about the term "Bitch."

On one hand I think it is crass and degrades women. The fact that women are doing it offhandedly and that it has become culturally acceptable makes me sad.

On the other hand, used in a specific context, bitch is an positive term that refers to women who don't take anyone's crap and harbor no illusions.

I use it with my best friends but not in public or with men. Men are too comfortable call a woman that.

I just do not feel comfortable using that word and I don’t use it. Also in my life I do not have people who use that word or swearing in general.

I can't accept it personally. I don't believe in "taking back" words. You can call yourself and all your friends this as a term of endearment or in the context of you being a badass, But men still know what it actually means and continue to use it accordingly. Maybe some of you or many of you actually feel that it's possible to take it back/own it, I can't really influence you either way and I hope you're right. But for me it's super uncomfortable to hear and I won't ever refer to myself or other women by that word.

I hate that word and I never use it, not to insult anyone and not as a joke either. If a woman on FDS asks whether she’s being a b*tch, I sometimes ask what she means, what is a b*ch and is it so bad to be one?

I dislike it, & won’t tolerate any guy speaking to me like that. It is degrading. Completely unacceptable in a work environment.

When hurled as an insult it’s weak at best and don’t like or tolerate it.

But as a casual reclamation between girl friends, love it. My little clique probably abuses it but it makes us laugh. To each their own.

It’s part of my main account’s username. It’s one of these words that are meant to be insulting by shaming you for putting yourself first. If that means to be a bitch, then yeah I am one.

I don’t use it personally and I won’t date anyone that does. All ex’s and my husband have been absolutely fine with that standard and have never complained.

I sometimes would refer to myself or my besties as bitches, since I know they don't mind and we all do it playfully. I do get very offended if I hear a man use it, though, because they always say it as an insult. I think words hold as much power as you give them.

I personally like reclaiming words that are meant to be insulting, because I feel empowered by it, but only when I use them about myself and similar people. Another example: as a bisexual woman I love calling myself queer because it's a slur that I have reclaimed. People in the past have used that term to insult our community, so it's a sort of in-your-face way of expression.

I use the word as a general expression but I'm trying to cut back on that .

But I do not and will not call other women a bitch.

Guys who use it will be removed from my life. Women who use it as an insult towards me are removed from my life. I don't use the word unless I'm describing something truly horrible someone did.

I'll give friends a pass if I think there's innocent intent, but I don't like it or encourage that behaviour.

I detest it. I was married for 24 years and by the end I thought 'bitch' must be a term of endearment he used it so much and never in a joking or lighthearted way. Hearing it triggers me badly. I don't understand, with all the words we have at our disposal to use, why we would choose this one. But I don't understand a lot of modern culture - the downhill slide in language skills is one of them and name calling of any kind, tops that list. I have spoken about this to my brother though and we were raised with an abusive mother and his view is 'they are only words and they have no power to hurt me' . And I do remember thinking this way as a teenager so maybe his coping mechanism has carried through. I think words are important and I am very attuned to nuances in speech now, they give a lot away about a person. A person using the term 'bitch' in any way, is never going to be one of my people. I am very choosy.

I would be considered a bee itch by some peoples standards since I have boundaries and refuse to take any mans bs. But, I set a young, female family member straight about calling me that word. Its bad enough men use it to silence and put us down. Women don't need to do that to each other

Ehh I don’t have a problem using it amongst my girlfriends in a comical manner and as far as being called a bitch, if I manage to piss off a man enough for him to call me a bitch well then good for me 💁‍♀️ I must’ve been doing something right lol. I’d rather be thought of as a bitch than be considered someone people can walk all over.
