Adding on, not only do they hate themselves and project their heinous traits onto you (which is why they mistreat you in the first place)—they deep down admire and resent your positive traits.

For example, a lying, cheating NVM: "you can't be trusted! Where were you last night?!"

In reality, if you checked his phone/email/SMs you would find out that he was the one lying and cheating.

Meanwhile, you were at home reading or out to dinner with friends.

It's almost comical how immature this type of protection is. Except, it really makes us question ourselves and our reality (gaslighting).
