I’ve read this twice now, it was posted earlier, and I’d like to think all he’s saying is that if he wanted to keep her trapped, he could, and she is realizing, I need to get my mental health in order to prepare not to be in such a situation. I’d like to think a man who’s been with his autistic and traumatized wife for nine years, who takes care of her completely while she heals, would not actually do such a thing were she choose to end the marriage. Hopefully he loves her and can support her get her life to a place that she has independent financial means, to not be so dependent on him, so that she could leave if she needed to, like FDS supports.

But he was still the asshole for the way he went about it. It was a cruel comment to make. She is powerless; he made her feel powerless; and he needs to realize the situation she is in as a disabled woman who relies on her husband, and not be such a dick in the future.
