Lukewarm men aren't good partners. It's better for women to cut their losses rather than stay with someone who is staying with them out of convenience. Let alone propose to them.

My step dad once told me a man does what he want, go for what he wants, he make sure what he wants is never going without their wants needs and desires. But you have to remember not all men are HV, and therefore not everyone will do even if it needs to be done.

I know of two close to home examples where exes of mine were proposed to by their girlfriends. I also know that they thought the gesture was nice and accepted but ultimately said they were fine “without ever getting married” (to her). One couple broke up, the other isn’t married years later and still no other life changes as they were living together for a few years already.

Also, even men who do propose often do it for bullshit reasons like family/girlfriend pressure, having a child out of wedlock, financial security, lock in a live in mommy bangmaid. Honestly even if a guy proposes we know the gravity of marriage is lost on them. Let’s not forget mismatched couples fuel a whole industry of therapy, counseling, legal platforms, divorce, ect. So you must be absolutely certain this man won’t flip on you even if he does propose. If a man isn’t proposing then you already know he’s going to be more flighty and indifferent than a man who did, who proposed for all the wrong reasons!

100% a man should always propose, and then because YOU VETTED HIM PROPERLY AND KNOW HIS INVESTMENT, you know it’s safe to accept! If you have any doubts or there could be circumstantial reasons he has to propose just decline.

Eta: my engaged ex boyfriend who got proposed to was someone I had as an acquaintance forever. I dated him in 2005, we were lovers for years after we broke up and just blocked him this year. When he found out I was getting divorced in March HE SHOWED UP TO MY HOUSE WITH GIFTS, DINNER, AND A LISTENING EAR (and lots of hugs). He then drove me to an art store and told me I needed to get back into my hobbies, ran inside and came back to the car with bags of art supplies for me. This man is not committed to his fiancé and he’s always romanticized our relationship 15 years down the line. He accepted her proposal because it was convenient. So yeah, don’t propose to men. Ever.

Yeah, first time around being married to my LV cop husband, I picked out my own ring (wasn't a diamond; it was a small, cheap amethyst. We were broke-ish; I was in college.) The way he proposed was so offhand, so not thought out, it sickened me, and I should have just said no thanks, let's wait, and you can do that again properly... but ya know, pickme 20s. I've lived and learned. He married me because it was just time for him to get married; I was there; he thought he could control me and I'd be a live-in maid. It was a bad, sad time in my life, but I learned, I survived, and I got OUT. Very glad to have been married a second time, very happily, for 17 years. First thing we did was hire a weekly housekeeper!

I know one successful married couple where the woman proposed to the man (in the 90s back when “equality” and women chasing was all the rage). However he is a VERY HV man and this was before the advent of online dating, hookup culture, and ubiquitous violent porn. In 99.9% of cases a woman proposing is a bad idea.

Many men, including LVM, will agree with FDS principles.

A LVM will agree that a man will propose to a woman if he's truly interested in her. He knows that's the truth. That won't stop him from staying with a placeholder girlfriend or accepting a proposal from a woman he's lukewarm about, though.

I’m strong enough to ask a man on a date or propose. It’s because of this strength that I no longer do the former, and wouldn’t do the latter. I need a man who is bold and strong enough to keep up with me. If he can’t initiate a date, never mind a proposal, then that tells me I’ll be doing all the planning and most of the work to keep the relationship going.
