anime is literally animation.. its the same as watching cartoons except its for all ages. But if the guy OBSESSES over anime then thats a red flag. Asking someone to cosplay for your own sexual pleasure is fucked up.

When I went to my friend's house the other day her mans was sitting in his room watching an anime about little girls then when he came out he was bitching about her forgetting to take *him* to *his* eye appointment.

Anime is just the Japanese word for animation. One can have a healthy interest in anime and manga - of course, too much of it is bad.

Your concern that some depictions of women in anime are misogynistic is valid. However, shitting on all anime and manga, including those by women who do not portray themselves in misogynistic manners, does not make yourself the better person, OP.

Anime is something I really enjoy and I wouldnt be able to be happy with someone who doesnt like anime at all. My husband and I watch anime together and he was never weird about it or anything. I think that watching or liking anime is one thing but it gets weird once a guy starts collecting anime stuff or seems to be completely obsessed with it. I still own a couple of cosplays that I made when I was a teenager and there was never any inappropriate reaction or request from him.

ITT: people defending anime but not addressing cultural misogyny, addressing the male fantasy aspect OR the fact that men don’t watch it for the PLOT or ANIMATION, they watch it for the toxic portrayal of women as a sexual kink. See it from a male perspective. They don’t care about any supposedly ‘feminist’ characters....

Its a very immature interest besides the creepy sex factor. I would be very wary of ANY adult so enamored with cartoons. It's bizarre and a sign of arrested development.

I get where you’re coming from, but it really depends on the kind of anime he watches. I introduced my SO to anime, but I don’t really watch such vulgar anime w him and neither does he. We like a good plot. And while you can’t completely avoid it, I still love anime and whenever I find a good show, we enjoy it.
