I've done all of these things and it seriously shifts your mindset. More HV people see you boldly doing things by yourself and they're more likely to respect someone who's comfortable with their solitude. I like dining by myself. I usually bring a journal or a book when I do. People don't judge someone by themselves nearly as often as we think they do. ❤️

And if I might add, treat yourself extra special for your birthday. Don’t wait for someone else to remember and hopefully honor your day. You do it. Shop for you. Buy yourself a little cake. Schedule a facial or massage.
I began doing this years ago when the latest LVM “forgot” my birthday yet again, as if treating me well one day a year was completely alien to him.

Yes!!! Loving yourself is sooo important. How are you suppose to know the little things that make you happy if you don’t know what makes you happy?! Or maybe I just love spending time alone and taking care of my own needs😂😂

Skip those selfies, they’re for narcissists.

You should read the handbook to level up your self-esteem. I hope I'm not coming too harshly, but saying selfies = narcissism is quite a stretch that usually comes from the mouth of someone who sees self-love as vanity... those are 2 different things

Narcissism has hardly anything to do with liking the way you look.

I take selfies when I'm feeling cute. I am all about hyping myself up. I hear men criticize women a lot for this as well. Please don't subscribe to the notion that if you like the way you look, or you know you are attractive, you are a narcissist.

Exactly. Absolutely nothing wrong with admiring your own selfie. Women have been shamed enough for it. It’s about damn time we own it. I take selfies to document some makeup looks I do just for myself!!

Thank you, women are always vilified for enjoying our looks.

A selfie here and there is fine, but not “lots of selfies”. I see people of both genders flood social media with their faces daily or missing out on what is happening around them, because they spend half an hour staring at themselves on their phone screen, pouting and all.
According to research, narcissism is on the rise and people who take lots of selfies score higher on it. There’s a lot more to life than staring at own reflection.

Taking a selfie when you’re feeling cute doesn’t mean you’ll post it. I take selfies and like to look at them a year down the line when my phone reminds me of the photo memories. It’s nice to look back on your fabulous looks or be reminded of cute outfits. The point is to not take selfies for anyone else but yourself.

"Take lots of selfies, for yourself" mentions not a single thing about posting them to social media. Taking them for yourself implies that they are only for you.
I've never met anyone like you describe. It seems sad to me though. They obviously crave that external validation.

"People who take lots of selfies score higher on it (narcissism)" Correlation does not imply causation. There might be a linking factor, BUT it is not necessarily an indicator. Careful with those farfetched conclusions

Skip the “coffee dates” too, getting a $4 drink in a paper cup doesn’t qualify remotely as a “date” in ANY realm of the universe for a self-respecting woman.

Don’t know where you’re drinking coffee but sitting in a nice café sipping coffee in a beautiful mug reading a book is a great date with yourself. It’s just an example though.
The message overall is about doing nice things for yourself. For some it may be a coffee date. For you it might be something else. The message doesn’t get diluted because of these specifics. It was an example.

Such critiques aren't self-respecting either. The premise was for you not to wait around for a man to invite you to go out and do whatever you want to do in the first place.

Don’t know how this harmless message about self love has attracted such critiques.

Sometimes I think people are desperate to get in those snappy one-liners so they can get karma. Application of the handbook on dating doesn't really apply to dating yourself. I enjoyed it though. ❤️ It's a good reminder.

A coffee date doesn't qualify as a date when it's a man asking you out, especially at the beginning, but it's a perfectly good date when you're taking yourself out.
Context matters.
