Was going to crosspost this from r/AreTheStraightsOK.

I saw another post here very recently about how guys who do the bare minimum should not be considered HVM and wanted to reiterate:

Real HVM know doing the bare minimum every day is just that, the bare minimum. Partners should both be putting in an effort to keep the household running smoothly and efficiently.

Don't fall into the trap of thinking "If I compliment him then he'll do it more often!" NOPE. He knows he should be carrying his weight and helping out. If he's not already doing those things consistently then it'll only get worse as time goes on.

My ex once proudly exclaimed that he did the dishes. I thanked him and then walked into the kitchen to find the sink still full. He maybe washed a pot or something. Pissed me tf off. I was already on my way out and that didn't help.

Yuck. This is so my father. I swear he does ONE load of laundry (and by one load I mean my mom sorts the clothes and puts them into the washer and asks if he can put ONE of the loads in the dryer when it’s finished) and he will gloat about that shit for a week straight.

I was just thinking about my ex who was perfectly OK with being financially dependent on me, and when I occasionally got stressed out about it and said that I wished he were more of a partner, he got OUTRAGED because how dare I accuse him of not being a partner when he helps with some of the household chores?? Meanwhile I was working full time, bringing in the only paycheck, AND doing half of the housework plus meal planning and grocery shopping for us. But how dare I say he isn't being enough of a partner.
