God, the amount of respect I have for a man who takes proper care of himself really makes it feel like the bar is in hell. Taking care of himself shouldn't be unnecessarily gendered--we should /all/ want to look our best for ourselves and others. I love my skincare routine! Sure, it's expensive, but I find it relaxing and a wonderful self-investment.

I was once having a conversation with a man who had really nice skin and he said “you’re going to think this is gay, but honestly I got really hooked on this Korean skin care stuff my ex left behind.” I just stared at him blankly because if he hadn’t said that, I’d be slightly impressed.

The bare minimum beauty routine: brush hair, brush teeth, wash face, jeans and a t-shirt is above and beyond for men. As a woman, I get shamed for it to no end. I never got into cosmetics, hair products and was too inept to know fashion. So my undone, straight combed hair and comfy t shirts made people think I didnt take cate of myself, like I was some sort of un-woman. It pisses me off when men can get away with being fat, disgusting and balding but God forbid I dont want to put shine and mousse in my hair or get my nails done

It’s frustrating because it would take 20-30 minutes tops for a man to include a skincare regimen and put time into his hair and outfit. Why is spending time on yourself considered feminine?? It’s literally just a form of self-respect and the desire to be taken seriously or to attract someone on your level.

When I visited Scotland last year I noticed that the majority of the men dressed extremely well in classic styles with the right fit for their body. They had clearly put time into their appearance before heading to work or out to the pubs at night. I came home to “men” wearing shorts and a wrinkled t-shirt to the bars. I can only imagine, and never want to know, how disgusting their apartments are.

The median age in Dublin is 25. It’s the youngest city in Europe so you see more of the consequences of men having to put images on social media, and the men there are more image conscious and less macho aspiring.

There is also more of a social expectation of being good ‘craic’ so the sense of humour is also much more my style.

The sun does not help Florida men one bit but I thought the humidity would at least do them some favours? Damn.

When I moved to Los Angeles from Minnesota a few years ago, I noticed a big difference in the amount of men who take care of themselves. My last roommate was in his 40s and he had a full head of hair and pretty solid skincare and health and fitness routine. Even the guys who work regular jobs that have nothing to do with Hollywood seem to do it. That roommate was a restaurant manager.

(Side note: I’ve noticed it’s fairly common for people in their 30s and 40s who are single with no kids to live with roommates in LA because of the higher cost of living. I’m 28.)

I think this is because the close proximity to Hollywood puts more pressure on everyone to look good, regardless of gender, and whether you’re in “the industry” or not. But not every guy here is like that of course. There are still plenty of unhealthy lazy guys who are aging badly. Including actual celebrities, according to r/men_of_the_Wall. It’s just seems to be a much lower proportion compared to Minnesota.

Nothing more attractive than a clean groomed man that doesn't live in wrinkled ratty T's with a pube hair looking beard.
