I’ve been into these for years! This is why I recommend every woman read The Gift of Fear by Gavin DeBecker.

She acquiesced to so many of his absolutely outrageous, boundary-stomping requests. Then before she knew it, she was alone in a car with a psycho. I’m not blaming her, just trying to highlight how brainwashed women are to ignore every red flag. This is one of the the worst case scenarios of “being nice/polite” and “giving him a chance”.

Edit: I’m talking about the last story in particular.

This is so scary! I was nearly followed home three months ago by someone who looked decent on first glance and were dressed decently. It was on the subway train and my instinct warned me something was off about the guy that I perceived to look decent outwardly. He kept nearly arising out of his seat when the train would stop at any station, he would peer at me from the corner of his eyes as he did this, likely to see if I was going to disembark at the current stop. When he would see I made no move to depart, he would remain seated and throw me sneaky glances during the ride.

Once my stop arrived, I dashed out and ahead of other passengers leaving. I glanced back and saw he too had departed at my stop and his eyes were fixed on me. He was trying to keep up. His face revealed no emotions. I rushed upstairs ahead of everyone and as soon as I got out, I began speed walking and I hid at the corner of a building and watched as he looked around for me. He descended back into the subway station.

I thought to myself maybe I was being paranoid and he must have been lost or something. So I left my hiding spot and began walking home. Within a couple of minutes I have a strange feeling I’m being followed and I glance back, that creep was following behind me. Instead of rushing to my home address, I turned the corner and ran towards my neighborhood police precinct. He saw where I was going and he ran away.

I lurk LetsNotMeet regularly! Reading their stories is really good practice for identifying red flags, both in dating and non-dating situations. That last story...phew. Not to blame her, but she ignored so many red flags. Being naive, giving the benefit of the doubt, and ignoring our instincts puts us in risky situations.

I've never heard of this subreddit. These stories are absolutely scary. I've been in a few situations where I didn't know what to do, and my first instinct is usually ignore, if that doesn't work I usually run. I'm always usually on high alert in my surroundings, and I'm always cautious about letting know men where I live until a good amount of time. Because it may not work out, the last thing I want is a stalker.

One of these happened to my sister who was studying abroad in France - she got roofied, but she ended up going home I guess right after someone slipped her something. She woke up on the floor of her apartment after only having one drink. So scary to think if she had stayed at the bar longer because she was in a foreign country and none of the people she was with were watching out for her.
