I started reading the currently very popular webcomic Lore Olympus but had to stop because the power dynamics and age gap between Hades and Persephone were making me feel sick quite frankly. This comic is very popular with teenagers and young women and it is very worrying. Persephone is portrayed as very naive and overly childlike ( like even in her size difference to Hades as well as actions) she has been protected by her mother her whole life and is only just entering the world. She is also a teenager (19) still attending college. She ends up working for Hades (who gives her a job she is not qualified for) who is a powerful CEO type who looks to be in his late 30s/ early 40s. They also portray the older ( probs mid 20's) woman Hades left to pursue the teen as the villain. The way their relationship progresses also looks like a big pile of grooming tactics. What is worse is this comic is written by an adult woman. It has the potential to make young women vulnerable to predators and I feel it is important that women openly discuss how messed up the dynamics of this comic are in popular spaces on the Internet. It is why I am posting this here. There have already been YouTube videos challenging this.
