She is eminently qualified for the position. I don’t necessarily agree with all of her views, but I am disgusted by the attacks by the right on her LSAT scores. She went to Harvard for undergraduate and law school.
This is a line of question that she’s receiving exclusively because she is a black woman. It’s gross.

Boo hoo, men can disrespect women all the day long behind their keyboard but women who are more capable than the average man needs to make sure she doesn’t hurt his fee fees?

A woman who refuses to define what a woman is, is no friend to women. The Democrats have abandoned women and women's rights. I oppose her appointment. Grow a spine and stand up for women.

This is a woman who can’t define what a woman is and lets p*dophiles off with light sentences. She’s an ideologue. She’s no ally to women’s or children’s rights and safety.
Edit - you can downvote all you want. This judge wouldn’t have a problem defining “fire hydrant” and “no parking zone” in a case or to the senate. The definition of a woman is under intense political scrutiny right now just as CP is under intense normalization pressure, as we’ve all discussed on FDS many times. Ironically, KBJ is in the position she’s in as a Supreme Court nominee because of her sex (Biden outright said he would only nominate a black woman candidate); she’s happy to use the definition of woman to get ahead, but will pull up the proverbial ladder behind her. No one else sees the problem? I’m looking at all these Boomer and Gen X women who have used women’s spaces for their political gain only to turn around and hand them over to men, also for their own political gain. KBJ is no different. Don’t be hypnotized by her race and sex.
Anyone excusing her record on CP needs to read her actual opinions. She doesn’t see the harm of CP. That other “conservative” judges, as though that means something to me, do the same means we have a massive justice system problem.

Do some research and do not parrot talking points.
She follows a very common sentencing practice when it comes to Child porn because the laws were written prior to the modern internet. Even Conservative Judges sentences are in line with hers.
As a Judge she should never define anything. It could be used by a defense to call a mistrial. Let alone in front of the Senate hearing. Doing so could used to make her recuse herself from future cases.
Amy Coney Barrett correctly used similar language when given questions about abortion and other things. If she had been asked "do you believe life begins at conception" and answered yes, there would be standing to contest her ability to be unbiased.
A judge needs to be open to ideas and arguments. The senate trying to lock a Judge into a definition, or belief of an issue is a trap no matter what side of politics you are on. Especially when these issues are likely to come before them.

We shouldn't deify politicians IMO. Honestly I was very upset when I found out about how she justified possession of CSAM with misguided sympathy. This is a classic case of himpathy IMO, similar to Brock Turner's light sentence ("but his career!")
Quotes:
Jackson later went head-to-head with Hawley, who emphasized a case in which Jackson sentenced a man to three months in prison for distributing and possessing child pornography despite the federal guidelines requiring a minimum of 10 years in prison. During sentencing in that case, Jackson said that it would not be appropriate to increase the sentence in relation to the number of images possessed and that the man’s crimes did not “signal an especially heinous or egregious child pornography offense.”
...
In response to Hawley, Jackson said that she didn’t remember in particular the details of the case but that she recalled the case being “unusual.” She noted the defendant had just graduated from high school and that some of the minors depicted in the images were “older.” Hawley noted that Jackson said to the defendant, “This seems to be a case where you were fascinated by sexual images involving what were essentially your peers.” The images the man, who was 18 at the time, was found guilty of possessing depicted children as young as 8 years old.

Any politician who minimizes sex crimes and danger to children is not a true feminist ally. Period.

Yes. And there's a long string of this with her. I'm also having trouble finding the logic that the introduction of the internet should make for lighter sentences. Common sense tells us the images can spread more rapidly and men have no problem traveling to hurt someone so what gives with Ketanji? She's junk.
[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
It's an absolute disgrace and proof the Western world by and large "off the books" doesn't care about victims of sex trafficking/exploitation/abuse, especially women and children. It's a wink and a nod apparently 🙄. My question is WHY is there not a petition or some kind of advocacy effort for these children? People possessing CSAM victimize the survivors over and over and create the demand. A lighter sentence literally sends the implicit message of condoning it. I'm so angry I cannot think straight
[–]elainejay82FDS Apprentice 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link
Right, so these light sentences "cuz internet" made me think of the 8 year old child who is FOREVER scarred by these actions over and over (the images do not go away) and her feigning "logic cuz internet" makes my blood boil. And these dudes get three years?????! Miss me with that, when the recommended sentence to begin with is 10. I mean that is a fucking strrrrrrettttttch. Really seems fair to the victim and their families. It's a slap in the face to assume Americans are this dumb and will just buy any half-assed response they push out.
I used to get trainings for identifying victims of sex trafficking. One of the largest hubs of it in the nation is literally a cow town I would have never suspected.
But just so you know, some things you can keep your eyes peeled for are:

Don't be partisan just look at her merit democracy can be shit Republicans can be good. Judge on individual merits.
As to why she is be criticised now, she is in a greater level of public light and people expect a lot of people in those super high positions say vs a fast food worker

She lost me when she gave some bullshit reason as to why she can’t define what a woman is. I’m not an astronaut, but I know what a planet is. It showed a real lack of conviction and authenticity.
[–]Lightfoot167821 points 4 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link
The question wasn't given sincerely, and was an obvious trap.
Whatever answer she gave would have been twisted to fit their narrative, and she knew it. If you think it wasn't a trap, then you answer the question and lets see how easily your words can be twisted to make you sound ignorant, culturally insensitive, or a bigot.
[–]BasieSkanksRuthless Strategist 17 points18 points19 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
A woman is an adult human female. It’s an objective fact. It’s not bigotry to say that. If people get offended by that, that’s their problem. In the US, sex-based rights exist and are currently under attack. If she cannot define who/what a woman “because she’s not a biologist”, can she be trusted to defend sex-based rights at the highest level? Speaking the truth doesn’t always make you popular, but that doesn’t mean it’s okay to lie or be disengenous.

Some of y’all are gonna be mad at me for saying this but oh friggin well…
Some of these comments are exactly why is a lot of us Black women will never fully trust white women. The fact that Ketanji Brown Jackson is the most experienced nominee AND the first Black woman in American history to be nominated to the SCOTUS is not enough. Y’all want her to be a radical as well? We know good and goddamned well that any extreme views from Hon. Brown Jackson would be used against her, in spite of her credentials.
Kiss my grits, respectfully.
[–]Shabobo119 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Nope, we just want her to be able to define the word woman. Kiss my grits if you can’t.
[–]xdecadentFDS Newbie 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Pray tell, what is the definition of the word woman? And what answer would be acceptable to you?
The person who asked that question doesn’t even know the difference between the constitution and the Declaration of Independence. It’s quite laughable that she was questioning anyone at all.
[–]elainejay82FDS Apprentice 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Keep "not trusting white women" and I guess "white women" (you sure it's only white women who don't agree with her nomination?) will keep not trusting the paedo sympathizer who apologizes to the convicted pedophiles but not to the victim's or their families.
Please read more closely into what she has done. It really is appalling.
[–]xdecadentFDS Newbie -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link
I’ll do what I please. As a Black woman who is often one of the few in my workplaces for the last 20 years, I’ve seen my fair share of bullshit. And on this, I’m calling bullshit.
I’m seeing the responses here and on Twitter. It’s a very clear divide and I’m sorry for not mincing words but this is clearly an issue here.
Judges do not write the law. They are meant to enforce it. She did not lie: the laws were not written with the internet in mind. Have an issue with the laws not being up to the times? Press your senators and state representatives. It’s their job to present bills and push policy changes.
The few cases that we are referring to where a lighter sentence was issued, the lighter sentence was pushed by the prosecution. Take it up with your local district attorney. Ask them why they are recommending lighter sentences for child r*pe.
And to further drive home the point; when the R. K.elly sex tape was making its rounds it was on bootleg DVDs and it found it’s way on the internet. I was about 14? High speed internet was not a wide spread thing yet. I only had dial up at home but my aunt had high speed cable. Someone emailed me a link on AOL and in seconds a download was completed. I didn’t think anything could download that fast - in those days I left my computer on overnight to download. When I opened the file I was sick to my stomach. But child rpe is child rpe. My aunt could have gotten in serious trouble anyway. I never sent it to anyone but Hon. Brown Jackson’s point made a valid point - in seconds something can be shared. Should and and could it be held to the same level as the DVD bootlegger who made the copies?
Want tighter laws: press your lawmakers.
Edit: nice of you to block me after replying. I’ll put my reply here
“I’m making it about race because misogynoir is very real. Are you familiar with how it feels?
The same senators who pressed her about those cases are the same ones who voted for her to be confirmed as a judge 4 times over.
Again, the rulings that resulted in the sentencing in question were made in comparison to more heinous cases that she had tried and given harsher sentences for. To say she’s light on pedophiles is a bit of an exaggeration.”
[–]elainejay82FDS Apprentice 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
Still, minimum recommended entences for that were 10 years and she went lightest possible every time, can't define what a woman is, and apologizes to the families of convicted pedophiles but not to the victims themselves nor their families. You asked if we wanted her to be a radical, but that's our point. She holds radical viewpoints that are not safe for women or children.
But it's okay. I'm sure those guys are no real harm after 24 months, right? I would be just as pissed if she were white. Some of these dudes had over 6,000 images. That's not a "Whoopsie, I clicked a spam link" slip up.
I'd hope we all know better by now not to click spam links and being that our majority of communication is via technology we should all really be giving a shit. We don't have to like a judge with this type of history nor one who holds such a nonchalant attitude towards people who possess CP. You can make it about race if you want, but if we are talking about the rights of children or women, she's not on board.
We don't have to agree. You can like her all you want. Personally, the things she says in response to some of the cases such as calling a victim and offender with a massive age gap "peers" personally curdles my gut. Being unable to define "woman" curdles my gut. Watching our spaces, rights, sports, bathrooms, get trampled on and infiltrated by physical men curdles my gut and not defining what is a biological term will only allow more of it. You can support all of that if you want to, but I won't. 🤷🏼♀️

Utterly disappointed by this woman, she is a pickme.
[–]Timely-Inspector3248 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
She’s the furthest thing from a pick me. She knows exactly what they’re trying to do and isn’t letting them at all. She’s answering the questions exactly as she should, and she very clearly makes her decisions based on the current laws (see: the sentencing guidelines for the pedophile she’s been questioned about).
[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
100%, even if the sentencing was "standard," she seemed to justify the crime in her quote in the article I saw. It was disgusting. I want so badly for more world politicians to be strong powerful women, and somehow the woman they chose this time sympathized with a literal pedo
[–]BasieSkanksRuthless Strategist 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Not to mention she refused to define what a woman is. I’m glad that a black woman is in line for SCOTUS for the first time and her record is impressive. But that doesn’t mean we should be celebrating her without closely examining her views and her history. If a man defended giving a pedo a light sentence, the women on this sub would be (rightfully) raging.
[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
There are so many WOC who are smart and accomplished and qualified for these political positions (men held us back from them over the years obviously). I don't understand why we have to have a huge loss for women and children too, in this situation. I'm devastated and heartbroken these victims' pain has been essentially minimized by her 💔 . These people in power aren't doing enough to help the defenseless. Damn it hurts, and I feel powerless to stop this stupid Epstein & Maxwell/Roman Polanski/Karla Holmolka/pedo-defending culture
[–]BasieSkanksRuthless Strategist 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Precisely.
Kamala Harris is also celebrated on this subreddit, but she publicly said she believed Joe Biden’s accusers. She then backtracked when he chose her as his running mate. Either she believed them and sold out or she said she believed them for political expediency. Again, no conviction. Just because someone is a woman that doesn’t mean they are pro-female. Deeper analysis is always needed. Many female politicians are not pro-female.
[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Meanwhile there are so many clips of Joe being inappropriate with women in public. Imagine wanting to work with that, lol. Must be nice saying things publicly then changing your mind (with no consequences) to suit whatever brings the cash in 🙄

It's like howwww many kids and women does the dude have to touch and sniff while people turn a blind eye?
I just watched the clip of Ketanji being unable to answer on what a biological woman is. She said "Not in this context. I can't." So strange because regardless of the full spectrum of masculinity and femininity on the gender scale, there are two clear sexes unless you are a hermaphrodite and a SCOTUS judge not being able to define one of them and the slimy way she evades the question just made nauseated and it should be something that terrifies us all.
This is why we have buff men joining women's swim teams and winning 1st place and transvestite (not complete with the actual sex change operation) men raping girls in schools in girl's bathroom. Our spaces, bathrooms, sports, and everything else are being wholly invaded by what are physically men and the results are already showing to be not pretty. Ketanji could have given a shit and defined what is actually a biological (not gender identified) term and it would have sent a strong message and hopefully had some ripple effects, but.... instead.... 3 years for paedos who ruined lives before they even really got going, and the allowance for women's rights and spaces to continue to be taken over and it won't matter since we have now lost the biological definition of the word "woman."
Thanks, Ketanji. You really have already done so much for women and children and those who are the physically weaker sex or are totally helpless children.
I'm pissed.
