One of my best friends told me a few years ago that the concept of "your best self" is actually very burdoning and demotivating. I definitely see what she means. If you're constantly striving to attain some ideal vision you see of yourself, you're setting yourself up for massive failure and disappointment. I think it's far more important to try and learn to love yourself for who you are. It's ok to have imperfections and flaws. It's ok to be late every now and then or sleep in on the weekends. Everyone else holds us to unattainable standards, we should not punish ourselves in the same way.

I've gotten a lot of peace thinking about it like this. Anyway, hope that helps someone out there. Love you all.

Fun thing I like to do is to keep a yearly journal. Every New Years I open it up. For that year I write how the best person that I can be behaves, how she treats herself, and the boundaries that she sets for treatment from others.

I read all my past entries and feel good about the changes I've made and I write a new entry to include anything else that I've learned.

It is one of my favorite personal traditions and my life changed pretty drastically when I started doing it.

This is a great reminder. Some days age easier than others to avoid those old bad habits. I find that avoiding FB, IG, and Snap has reduced my encounters with other pickmeishas and with LVM who would trigger me to act in that way.
